surpassing greatness.
Leader: Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! Praise him with
tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe!
People: Praise him with clanging cymbals; praise him with loud clashing
cymbals!
Leader: Let everything that breathes praise the Lord!
All: Praise the Lord! - Psalm 150
* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 210 Our God, Our Help in Ages Past (verses 1 through 5)
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
O Lord, you are the good shepherd. We know this well. Our faith stands as testimony
to your promises. And yet we are afraid of the wolves sometimes. We listen
to the hired hands rather than placing our trust wholly in you. We can’t always
see the good shepherd, but we can see the wolves and then the hired hands
look awfully appealing. Forgive us when we place our trust wrongly. Remind us
of the promises you make to us in Jesus Christ. And reminding us, call us once
more to place our trust in you and to follow. We pray this in Jesus’ name and for
his sake. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: If anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation. The old has passed away;
the new has come.
People: All this is from God, who reconciled himself to us through Christ and
has given us the ministry of reconciliation.
Leader: That is, in Christ, God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their
trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us.
Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - 2 Corinthians 5:17-19
*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 579)

beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

* THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus
Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin
Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended
into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into
heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he
shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy
catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of
the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will
be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us
our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us
from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
