"Absolutely Everyone"

Texts: 1 John 4:7-21; Acts 8:26-40

COMMUNION FOR ALL MPC'S MEMBERS

Every week Baron affirms our commitment to be a congregation that is deeply inclusive; reflecting the breadth and depth of God's love for us all.  Just because members are no longer able to be present in worship with us does not mean that they are left out of our thoughts and our communion.  Our commitment to inclusion extends beyond the sanctuary walls and so we are delighted that Dr. Robert Gray will be taking communion to our shut-in and homebound members periodically following the celebration of the Lord's Supper in worship, accompanied by our deacons.  We want to be sure that this opportunity to be a part of the communion of the saints here at Morningside extends as widely as it can, so if you or someone you know at Morningside needs to receive communion at home, please contact deacon Curt Barrett (emailcurt @mindspring.com, 404.310.4665) to be included in Robert's schedule as he extends our ministry of love and inclusion beyond the sanctuary walls.

SENDING SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO LIBERIA

Through the “Mercer on Mission” trip, MPC is reaching out to the students and teachers of Rick’s Institute in Liberia. In May, Mercer Professor and MPC member, Emilie Paille, will travel to Liberia, and we will partner with Mercer by collecting needed school items for the institute (white board markers, white board spray cleaner, pens, paper clips, child and adult scissors, #2 pencils, rulers, individual hand-held sharpeners, colored pencils, crayons (box of 8 or 16), Elmer’s glue/glue sticks, construction paper, and index cards). Please bring your donated items to the Welcome Center by May 13.

JOURNEY MEN’S SHELTER

On Sunday, May 13, Morningside will serve dinner to the 30 men at the shelter formerly known as Druid Hills Men’s Shelter, and we need your help.  If you can prepare any of the following: main dish, starch, vegetable, salad/bread, and dessert please let shepherd Curt Barrett know (emailcurt@mindspring.com). A sign-up sheet is also on the Mission bulletin board. For more information, contact Curt.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL JUSTICE ADVOCACY
Interested in environmental and social justice advocacy? Want to hear a legislative update from the 2012 GA General Assembly? Please come to the first meeting of the recently formed Environmental Action & Social Justice Committee on May 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Shelley Senterfitt's home (75 Montgomery Ferry Dr., Ansley Park). We will brainstorm our priorities and plan for the next year. Dinner will be served. RSVP to Shelley at ssenterfitt@skfamilylaw.com or 404.483.7325.

WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY

Joanna Adams’ “Rethinking the Bible” series concludes with two more meetings in May and June. On Wednesday, May 9, all women and friends are invited to gather in Room 201 at 10 a.m. to discuss the question “Are you a ‘Bible-believing’ Christian?”  The June meeting will shift to the third Wednesday, June 20.  Childcare is available - reserve through the church office.

COUPLES GROUP

If you’ve got a spouse, partner or significant other, come get better acquainted with MPC couples for a social evening with dinner at Jason’s Deli (corner of 10th and Piedmont) at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 11 hosted by Jill and Jack Klotz. For more information, or to RSVP contact the Bremers at kdbremer@bellsouth.net.

ONE GRAY HAIR LUNCHEON

Join the One Gray Hair luncheon at 12 noon on Wednesday, May 16 to learn about the fascinating and sweet hobby of beekeeping. Deacon and backyard beekeeper Curt Barrett maintains hives here on North Morningside Drive. If you have at least one gray hair, you’re invited to a great meal and program!  RSVP to Sarah Brownlee at rsbrownlee1046@gmail.com.

EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT UNDERWAY

Morningside Presbyterian Church is the beneficiary of an Eagle Scout Project by candidate David W. Vaughan, who is jointly registered with Troop 455 and Crew 455. To find David's project, take the trail that starts at the bridge and goes back to the seating area in the ravine. David is extending the trail from the seating area to the BBQ pit further down the ravine and cleaning out the BBQ pit. The next major effort will be to apply wood chips (when they arrive) to the trail. All members are welcome to participate in the work details and help with grill work for the BBQ pit.- David Cox, Crew 455 Adviser

SUPPORT SENIORS

During the month of May, we will be collecting items for residents of Calvin Court.  Requested items for their food pantry include: Paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, non-perishable meal items such as hearty soups, noodles, bean and rice mixes.

SCOTLAND 2013...Do you want to travel to the land of bagpipes, oatcakes and Calvinism? If so, Morningside is offering a trip to Scotland to celebrate the 499th anniversary of the birth of John Knox. Travel agent Kaye Carmichael, who planned MPC’s Paris-Geneva trip, has put together a great itinerary for a nine-day trip around central Scotland. Highlights include: Inverness and Loch Ness, Culloden and Castle Cawdor, St. Andrews, a visit to Scotland's smallest distillery as well as Glasgow, and of course, Edinburgh! Travel is planned for August 2013. If interested, contact Baron Mullis at baron.mullis @morningsidepc.org
