WORSHIP MAY 6, 2012
5TH SUNDAY OF EASTER
THE GATHERING Meredith Loftis
Leader: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
THE PRELUDE Walter Huff, organist
* THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul!
People: I will praise the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God
all my life long.
Leader: Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their
God, who made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them.
People: Who keeps faith forever; who executes justice for the oppressed;
who gives food to the hungry.
Leader: The Lord sets the prisoners free; the Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord
lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous.
People: The Lord watches over the strangers; he upholds the orphan and
the widow, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.
Leader: Let us worship God who creates us, sustains us and redeems us.
- Psalm 146:1-2; 5-9
* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 446 Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Eternal God, remind us of our baptism as we prepare to come to your table. Remind
us of your unmerited, unconditional love for the people you have made so
that we might acknowledge our sin, take comfort in your forgiveness freely given,
and turn ourselves to the way you would have us go. We ask these things because
we know that we have sinned, and we need forgiveness. Guide our hearts and our
minds in this moment and in each passing moment that we might be more and
more the disciples you have called, and that we might offer the grace we have received
to others. We pray this in the name of the one who carried our sin in order
that we might not live in fear, but trust in love, our Lord Jesus. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is,
seated at the right hand of God.
People: Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth,
for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Leader: When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in
glory. Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. - Colossians 3:1-4
*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 280)

He will my shield and portion be as long as life endures.
