THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
The truth does not change according to our ability to stomach it. - Flannery O'Connor
WOMEN'S BIBLE STUDY
Joanna Adams' "Rethinking the Bible" series will meet this Wednesday, May 9. All women and friends are invited to gather in Room 201 at 10 a.m. to discuss the question "Are you a 'Bible-believing' Christian?" Childcare is available - reserve through the church office. In preparation for this week's Bible study, please identify either your least favorite passage in the Bible or the one that is most beloved to you.
COUPLES GROUP
If you've got a spouse, partner or significant other, come get better acquainted with MPC couples for a social evening with dinner at Jason's Deli at the corner of 10th and Piedmont at 7 p.m. this Friday, May 11 hosted by Jill and Jack Klotz. For more information, or to RSVP contact the Bremers at kdbremer@bellsouth.net.
BAPTISM THIS SUNDAY
This Sunday, May 13, Anna Elaine, Brooks Evelyn, Katharine June, and Caroline Ann Nuckols, daughters of Hal and Kimberly Nuckols, will receive the sacrament of baptism.
SENDING SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO LIBERIA
In May, Mercer Professor and MPC member, Emilie Paille, will travel to Liberia, and we will partner with "Mercer on Mission" by collecting needed school items for Ricks Institute in Liberia. Items needed are: white board markers, white board spray cleaner, pens, paper clips, child and adult scissors, #2 pencils, rulers, individual hand-held sharpeners, colored pencils, crayons (box of 8 or 16), Elmer's glue/glue sticks, construction paper, and index cards). This is the last week to contribute! Please bring your donated items to the Welcome Center by May 13.
JOURNEY MEN'S SHELTER
This Sunday, May 13, Morningside will serve dinner to the 30 men at the shelter formerly known as Druid Hills Men's Shelter, and we need your help. If you can prepare any of the following: main dish, starch, vegetable, salad/bread, and dessert please let shepherd Curt Barrett know at emailcurt@mindspring.com. A sign-up sheet is also on the Mission bulletin board. For more information, contact Curt.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL JUSTICE ADVOCACY
Interested in environmental and social justice advocacy? Want to hear a legislative update from the 2012 GA General Assembly? Please come to the first meeting of the recently formed Environmental Action & Social Justice Committee on May 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Shelley Senterfitt's home (75 Montgomery Ferry Dr., Ansley Park). We will brainstorm our priorities and plan for the next year. Dinner will be served. RSVP to Shelley at ssenterfitt@skfamilylaw.com or 404.483.7325.
SUPPORT SENIORS
During the month of May, we are collecting items to restock the pantry for residents of Calvin Court. Calvin Court offers apartment homes for adults aged 62 and older. Requested items include: paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, and non-perishable meal items such as hearty soups, noodles, and bean and rice mixes. Please drop off your items in the baskets in the Welcome center.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS
As we gathered recently to make final plans for VBS June 25-29, we re-affirmed the importance of finding volunteers that are able to spend all five mornings with the kids in order to provide consistency in leadership. We TRULY appreciate all types of volunteers, but we invite you each to prayerfully consider if you can join us for the week to lead a group of elementary age children from activity to activity or co-lead a class of preschoolers.
SUMMER REGISTRATION UNDERWAY
End of May registration deadlines are fast approaching for both VBS and Mission Camp (July 23-27). Help us in volunteer recruitment and ordering of supplies by sending in your child's registration TODAY. Forms can be found on-line or contact Melinda Sandkam with any questions.
OUR SYMPATHY TO
