Joanna Adams preaching
"New Old Values"
Texts: John 17:14-19; Psalm 1
WELCOME, JOANNA ADAMS
We are delighted that our Pastor Emerita, Rev. Joanna Adams, will deliver this morning’s sermon. We are indeed honored and privileged to have Joanna back among us.
THANKS FOR THE MUSIC
Many thanks to both the Cherub and Treble Choirs who are singing in worship this morning. We will be celebrating them at lunch today (check out their pictures from last five years on your tables) and also thanking their leaders Rebecca Shipley and Walter Huff.
CONGREGATIONAL LUNCH
All are welcome at today’s congregational lunch. If you are a visitor, please know that we planned for you too! We hope to see you in Fellowship Hall immediately following worship.
YOUTH CHOIR DISCUSSION
Immediately following worship today, there is a meeting for all parents of rising 6th-12th graders to discuss the possibilities for a youth choir here at MPC. Meet Walter Huff in Room 201 at 12:05.
HARMONY YOUTH CHORUS TODAY
The congregation, staff and friends of Morningside are invited to a free concert of international music presented by HARMONY: Atlanta's International Youth Chorus this evening at 5 p.m. in the sanctuary. HARMONY is comprised of 80 singers, 6 to 18 years old, who represent the cultural diversity of our world. This concert also features outstanding alumni who return for this concert to join in the celebration of singing with choral movement, sign language and accompaniment with piano, percussion and instruments.
MPP GRADUATION CELEBRATION
Join us in congratulating 27 pre-k students of MPP who will be celebrating the end of their preschool years tomorrow. Many thanks to the kids, their parents and the awesome staff for making the 10th Anniversary year so wonderful.
END OF YEAR OUTING
All 4th & 5th grade Double Digits are invited to a day of fun at White Water on Tuesday, May 29. RSVP to Melinda Sandkam no later than this Tuesday, May 22 so that we can arrange enough chaperones. (Adults wanting to spend a fun day in the sun let Melinda know if you can drive.)
THANK YOU
Our sincere thanks to our tireless flower guild! Morningside is blessed with a gifted group of arrangers and deliverers who provide the magnificent flowers for us on special occasions. Volunteers arrange the flowers and also break the arrangements down after worship. The worship flowers are then delivered to members of the congregation who are unable to be with us and also to those who are experiencing a particular sadness or joy. Many thanks to all of the volunteers who make our sanctuary beautiful!
SUPPORT SENIORS
During May, we are collecting items to restock the Calvin Court pantry. Calvin Court offers apartment homes for adults aged 62 and older. Requested items include: paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, and non-perishable meal items such as hearty soups, noodles, and bean and rice mixes. Please place your donations in the Welcome Center baskets.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS
As we gathered to make final plans for VBS (June 25-29), we re-affirmed the importance of finding volunteers that are able to spend all five mornings with the kids in order to provide consistency in leadership. We truly appreciate all types of volunteers, but we invite you each to prayerfully consider if you can join us for the week to lead a group of elementary age students from activity to activity or co-lead a class of preschoolers.
SUMMER REGISTRATION UNDERWAY
End of May registration deadlines are fast approaching for both VBS and Mission Camp (July 23-27). Help us in volunteer recruitment and ordering of supplies by sending in your child's registration TODAY. Forms can be found on the bulletin board across from the nursery and on-line. Contact Melinda Sandkam msandkam @morningsidepc.org with your questions.
CLIFTON SANCTUARY MINISTRIES
Let's join together Memorial Day weekend to provide and/or serve dinner for 30 men on Saturday, May 26. Sign up on the bulletin board or contact David Johnston at dmjohnst @hotmail.com for more information. The meal is served from 5:45 to 7 p.m. or you can arrange to get food to the Johnstons beforehand.
SPECIAL SUMMER CONCERT AT MPC
All are invited to The Atlanta Opera High School Institute Spring Concert at Morningside on Sunday, June 10, at 4 p.m. (free admission). This concert will culminate the 2011-2012 High School Opera educational program, and will feature 11 select young singers from public and private schools throughout the area, performing highlights from the operatic repertoire. Walter Huff is music director of the program and will accompany the singers. This was a highlight of last year’s summer offerings. For more information, visit http://www.atlantaopera.org/calendar/view.aspx?pid=62346143.
THEOLOGY ON TAP RETREAT
John and Ann Watson have graciously agreed to host Morningside’s men’s group for their annual retreat in Suches on June 23. John and Ann's home is a reasonable drive from Morningside and is located near the Appalachian trail. RSVP to the church office office@morningsidepc.org if you would like to attend.
