THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
Because God has made us for Himself, our hearts are restless until they rest in Him. - Augustine of Hippo
PENTECOST BANNERS 2012
We recognize Pentecost as the beginning of Christ's church. Titled "Anointing Power," the pair of banners you will see at the front of the sanctuary this Sunday make use of batik fabrics in red, gold and yellow. The movement in the fabrics conveys the power and energy of the Holy Spirit coming upon the apostles as tongues of fire inspiring and enabling the start of the church. This Living Spirit that moved on that first Pentecost continues to move in our midst and in our souls across all boundaries and throughout all time.
CLIFTON SANCTUARY MINISTRIES
Let's join together Memorial Day weekend to provide and/or serve dinner for 30 men on Saturday, May 26. Sign up on the bulletin board or contact David Johnston atdmjohnst@hotmail.com for more information. The meal is served from 5:45 to 7 p.m. or you can arrange to get food to the Johnstons beforehand.
INQUIRERS' CLASS AND NEW MEMBERS' CLASS
On June 3, Morningside will offer an Inquirers' Class. This class is for anyone who wants to know a bit more about Morningside Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Church in general. It can be for folks who want to join on the following Sunday after our New Members' Class, or it can just be a tune-up for those who want a refresher on Presbyterian beliefs. Our New Members' Class will be offered on June 10. At the New Members' Class, those joining the church that day will be introduced to Session and received into membership, as well as, given an overview of ways to plug-in more deeply to the life of faith at Morningside Presbyterian Church. Both take place at 9:45 a.m. in the Session Room.
THEOLOGY ON TAP RETREAT
John and Ann Watson have graciously agreed to host Morningside's men's group for their annual retreat in Suches on June 23. John and Ann's home is an easy drive from Morningside and is located near the Appalachian trail. RSVP to the church office office@morningsidepc.org if you would like to attend.
SUPPORT SENIORS
During May, we are collecting items to restock the pantry of the Calvin Court residents. Calvin Court offers apartment homes for adults aged 62 and older. Requested items are: paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, and non-perishable meal items such as hearty soups, noodles, and bean and rice mixes. Please drop off your donated items in the Welcome Center baskets.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS
As we gathered recently to make final plans for VBS (June 25-29), we re-affirmed the importance of finding volunteers that are able to spend all five mornings with the kids in order to provide consistency in leadership. We appreciate all types of volunteers, but we invite you each to prayerfully consider if you can join us for the week to lead a group of elementary-age children from activity to activity or co-lead a class of preschoolers.
SUMMER REGISTRATION UNDERWAY
End of May registration deadlines are fast approaching for both VBS and Mission Camp (July 23-27). Help us in volunteer recruitment and ordering of supplies by sending in your child's registration today. Forms can be found on-line or contact Melinda Sandkam with questions.
CHURCH OFFICE
The church office will be closed Monday, May 28 in observance of Memorial Day.
