"The Whole Earth"
Texts: Isaiah 6:1-8; Romans 8:12-17
WELCOME CHRIS PETERS
We are delighted that our Summer Intern, Chris Peters, will deliver this morning’s sermon. Chris has served on our staff since last September, working with our youth advisors to build a quality youth program.
SUMMER TEN TEN
As our 3rd grade graduates join the 4th and 5th graders on Sunday mornings at 10:10 a.m., we begin the summer with both fun and outreach to community. This morning, the Double Digits assembled lunches for the Brown Bag program of Cure Childhood Cancer. Next Sunday, they create delicious salads for the men staying at Journey. Each week, they begin with some ping pong and fussball and proceed to outreach or Bible lesson with a preparation for attending worship at the end.
NEW MEMBERS' CLASS
Our New Members' Class will be offered next Sunday, June 10. At the New Members' Class, those joining the church that day will be introduced to Session and received into membership, as well as, given an overview of ways to plug-in more deeply to the life of faith at Morningside Presbyterian Church. The class meets at 9:45 a.m. in the Session Room.
SPECIAL SUMMER CONCERT AT MPC
All are invited to The Atlanta Opera High School Institute Spring Concert at Morningside on Sunday, June 10, at 4 p.m. (free admission). This concert will culminate the 2011-2012 High School Opera educational program, and will feature 11 select young singers from public and private schools throughout the area, performing highlights from the operatic repertoire. Walter Huff is music director of the program and will accompany the singers. This was a highlight of last year’s summer offerings. For more information, visit http://www.atlantaopera.org/calendar/view.aspx?pid=62346143.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
- Support VBS by donating snack and lunch items. See display in Welcome Center. Bring items to church by the date on reminder slip.
- Do you have a saw? Can you cut felt? You can help with a special VBS project. In order to offer a nativity scene craft, we need wooden blocks and felt pieces cut to a pattern. Contact Melinda today if you can help.
- One and two day volunteers needed too! Prepare and serve snack one day; help staff nursery for volunteers’ younger kids; help with an activity or closing day lunch. Even if you only have 2-4 hours to give, we still need you.
MISSION CAMP DEADLINE
All who have completed 2nd grade and older are welcome to attend ‘It’s Not All About Me’ Mission Camp here at MPC July 23-27. Be sure to register today, June 3. The fee is $110 by June 3 and $150 afterwards. Forms can be found on-line or on the bulletin board across from nursery. Contact Melinda Sandkam msandkam @morningsidepc.org with questions.
GOOD MORNING FROM LIBERIA!
As you read this, we’re having a relaxed Sunday afternoon involved in several activities: playing basketball, reading, talking on the porch, napping, and preparing for tomorrow’s teaching. Our first week was very productive. By the second day, the materials you sent with us were unpacked and ready to go, and Mercer teachers were settling in with their classes, nervous and excited before school, exhilarated and tired by the afternoon. Everything’s off to a great start.
COUPLES GROUP
If you have a spouse, partner or significant other, come get better acquainted with MPC couples on the second Friday of each month. The next gathering will be June 8 at 7 p.m. at the home of Bill and Sanda Means, 1071 McLynn Ave., 30306. Contact Kathy and Alan Bremer to RSVP or for more information: kdbremer@bellsouth.net.
THEOLOGY ON TAP RETREAT
John and Ann Watson have graciously agreed to host Morningside’s men’s group for their annual retreat in Suches on June 23. John and Ann's home is an easy drive from Morningside and is located near the Appalachian trail. RSVP to the church office office@morningsidepc.org if you would like to attend.
SUPPORT MEN AT JOURNEY SHELTER
In the month of June, there are two ways to reach out to the men staying at Journey. Sign up to provide a dish for dinner next Sunday, June 10 and/or bring in requested items to stock shelter breakfast needs. Place non-perishable items (grits, oatmeal, pancake mix, syrup, cereal, can fruit juice, canned fruit, coffee, sugar and creamer) in Welcome Center baskets by June 17.
SCOTLAND 2013
Do you want to travel to the land of bagpipes, oatcakes and Calvinism? If so, Morningside is offering a trip to Scotland to celebrate the 499th anniversary of the birth of John Knox. Travel agent Kaye Carmichael, who planned MPC’s Paris-Geneva trip, has put together a great itinerary for a nine-day trip around central Scotland. Travel is planned for August 2013. If interested, contact Baron Mullis at baron.mullis @morningsidepc.org.
YOUTH NEWS
Don’t forget to buy one of those $10 “stock” certificates from one of our youth planning to travel to the Montreat Middle School Conference in South Carolina next month. Hey—you get a report back from the kids plus a hot-dog lunch on Sunday, August 5, after worship.
THINK ABOUT RETREATING!
It’s not too soon to mark off Oct. 19-21 on your calendar and plan to get away to cool and lovely Montreat, NC, for our fourth annual all-church retreat. Each year, it’s been an event to remember for the whole family. Watch for details in the next couple of months.
SANCTUARY FLOWERS
A flower calendar is posted on the bulletin board in the hallway outside the Session Room, and if you wish to give flowers in honor or in memory of a loved one, we invite you to write your name and phone number next to the desired date. It is possible to share a date with other members if you want to give one arrangement or you may sign up alone to give both arrangements. Contact Anna Best in the church office office @morningsidepc.org for more information.
