WORSHIP JUNE 3, 2012
TRINITY SUNDAY / COMMUNION
THE GATHERING Baron Mullis
Leader: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
THE PRELUDE Walter Huff, organist
* THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: By awesome deeds you answer us with deliverance, O God of our salvation:
you are the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas.
People: By your strength you established the mountains, you are girded
with might.
Leader: You silence the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, the tumult
of the peoples.
People: Those who live at the earth’s farthest bounds are awed by your signs;
you make the gateways of the morning and the evening shout for joy.
Leader: Let us worship God, our creator, redeemer, and sustainer! Amen.
* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 138 Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God, our creator, redeemer, and sustainer, by your love all creation has come
into being. Yet we have failed to recognize your glory filling the Earth as we have
exploited nature. By your grace we have been called to follow Christ, our redeemer.
Yet we have focused on following our own desires. By your steadfast love
we have been given gifts to use in pursuit of righteousness and justice. Yet we have
pursued comfort and have failed to love our neighbor as ourselves. In your abundant
mercy, forgive us and reorient us in the direction of faithfulness and mercy
toward others. In the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior, we pray. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: So then, brothers and sisters, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the
flesh — for if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put
to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
People: For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.
Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - Romans 8:12-14
*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 416)
Laud and honor to the Father, laud and honor to the Son, laud and honor to the
Spirit, ever three and ever one; One in might and one in glory while unending ages run.
* THE PEACE OF CHRIST
(Children ages 3-8 are invited to leave after the Peace of Christ for special classes. Three through five-yearolds in Room 011; K - 2nd grade in Room 001.
THE CONCERNS OF THE CHURCH

THE ANTHEM They’ll Know We Are Christians by Our Love Scholtes, arr. Bock
We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord, and we pray that all unity will one day be restored.
And they’ll know we are Christians by our love. We will walk with each other, we will walk hand in
hand, and together we’ll spread the news that God is in our land. We will work with each other, we will
work side by side, and we’ll guard each one’s dignity and save each one’s pride. All praise to the Father,
from whom all things come, and all praise to Christ Jesus, His only Son, and all praise to the Spirit, who
makes us one.
THE SECOND LESSON Romans 8:12-17 (page 147 in the pew Bible, NT)
THE SERMON “The Whole Earth” Chris Peters
