WORSHIP JUNE 10, 2012
2ND SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST
THE GATHERING Chris Peters
Leader: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
THE PRELUDE Walter Huff, organist
* THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness,
come into his presence with singing.
People: Know that the Lord is God. It is he that made us, and we are his,
we are his people and the sheep of his pasture.
Leader: Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him, bless his name.
People: For the Lord is good, his steadfast love endures for ever, and his
faithfulness to all generations.
Leader: Let us worship God, Father, Son and Holy Ghost. - Psalm 100
* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 489 Open Now Thy Gates of Beauty
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Eternal God, our sin is before us. Where you have shown us your kingdom, we
have been quick to move on, to dismiss miracles and teachings and return to
things as usual. Where you have taught us by example, we have not allowed
those teachings to become our way of life. We dwell in darkness where you have
called us to light. Forgive us we pray, and transform us. Allow our lives to reflect
the light of your grace for all people, in order that we may be a light to the nations,
keeping us always in your care. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: “For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us
who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written:
People: ‘I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the
discerning I will thwart.’
Leader: For God’s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God’s weakness is stronger
than human strength.” Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. - 1 Corinthians 1:18-19; 25
*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 473)
For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child, friends on earth, and friends
above, for all gentle thoughts and mild, Lord of all to thee we raise this our hymn of
grateful praise.

* THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus
Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the
Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he
descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into
heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he
shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy
catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection
of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy
will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive

deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.
Amen.
