Baron Mullis preaching

     "Cedars and Noxious Weeds"

  Texts: Ezekiel 17:22-24; Mark 4:26-34

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

- Support VBS by donating requested snack and lunch items.  See the display in the Welcome Center. Bring your donated items to church by the date listed on the reminder slip.

- Take-home projects are now available to prepare materials ahead of time. Choose an item from the round table upstairs.

- One and two-day volunteers needed, too! Prepare and serve snack one day; help staff the nursery for our volunteers' younger kids; help with an activity or closing day lunch. Even if you only have 2-4 hours to give, we still need you.

WOMEN'S BIBLE STUDY WITH JOANNA ADAMS

Joanna Adams' "Rethinking the Bible" series concludes with the June meeting. On Wednesday, June 20, all women and friends are invited to gather in Room 201 at 10 a.m. to discuss the question "What the Bible Says about Heaven and Hell." This month's meeting is a shift to the third Wednesday of the month and a change from our regular schedule. Childcare is available - reserve through the church office.

THEOLOGY ON TAP RETREAT

John and Ann Watson have graciously agreed to host Morningside’s men’s group for their annual retreat in Suches next Saturday, June 23. John and Ann's home is an easy drive from Morningside and is located near the Appalachian trail.  RSVP to the church office office @morningsidepc.org if you would like to attend.

JUNE 24 - SING WITH THE CHOIR

Get ready to see (and hear!) 10 of your fellow MPC members sing with the Chancel Choir for worship next Sunday, June 24. If you have signed up to sing, plan to attend your one rehearsal in the Fellowship Hall this Wednesday, June 20, 7:30 - 9 p.m. On June 24, you will meet for warm-up/rehearsal at 9:30 a.m. This special mix of choir members and guests will sing a classic arrangement of the hymn "Abide with Me" by Gilbert Martin, often performed by the Duke University Choirs. A final Choral Response will also be offered by the combined group. Come see your friends "robe-up!"

MISSION CAMP VOLUNTEERS

It looks like we will have at least 27 attending Mission Camp July 23-27.  Monday, Thursday and Friday, we will need at least seven drivers each day (or half day) to get to our outreach destinations.  Contact Melinda today to sign up to accompany kids to locations such as Atria Senior Community, Atlanta Humane Society, Gateway Childcare or the Intown Collaborative Ministries’ food pantry.  If you are seeking a big summer adventure, join us for overnight hike on Tuesday and Wednesday.

CLIFTON SANCTUARY MINISTRIES

MPC would like to provide a Welcome Home Basket for each man at Clifton transitioning from homelessness by moving into their own home. We will be collecting household pantry items for these baskets from June 17 through July 15. A list of requested items can be found on the bulletin board in the Welcome Center. Please contact Shepherd David Johnston with any questions at 678.705.1628 or dmjohnst@gmail.com

GEORGIA SHAKESPEARE OUTING

Illyria, 12th Night the Musical is a hit – a shipwreck, separated twins and love promises to entertain with this musical adaptation!  MPC is off to the theater for a 7 p.m. performance on Sunday, July 22.  Group tickets are $30 each (made out to MPC).  Reserve your spot today by turning in check.  We can also share a meal together beforehand on picnic grounds.  Contact Melinda Sandkam with any questions.  Deadline: July 8.

YOUTH NEWS

Don’t forget to buy one of those $10 “stock” certificates from one of our youth planning to travel to the Montreat Middle School Conference in South Carolina next month.  Hey—you get a report back from the kids plus a hot-dog lunch on Sunday, August 5, after worship.

THINK ABOUT RETREATING!

It’s not too soon to mark off Oct. 19-21 on your calendar and plan to get away to cool and lovely Montreat, NC, for our fourth annual all-church retreat.  Each year, it’s been an event to remember for the whole family.  Watch for details in the next couple of months.

SANCTUARY FLOWERS

A flower calendar is posted on the bulletin board in the hallway outside the Session Room, and if you wish to give flowers in honor or in memory of a loved one, we invite you to write your name and phone number next to the desired date. It is possible to share a date with other members if you want to give one arrangement or you may sign up alone to give both arrangements. Contact Anna Best in the church office office @morningsidepc.org for more information.

MEALS ON WHEELS

Driver needed for Meals on Wheels route the second Wednesday of every month beginning in September. Please contact Sarah Brownlee at rsbrownlee1046@att.net if you can help.

SCOTLAND 2013

Do you want to travel to the land of bagpipes, oatcakes and Calvinism? If so, Morningside is offering a trip to Scotland to celebrate the 499th anniversary of the birth of John Knox. Travel is planned for August 2013. If interested, contact Baron Mullis at baron.mullis@morningsidepc.org.

WELCOME NEW MEMBERS

  • Kelly and Ed Garrison and their infant son Emmett
