People: full of honor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness
endures forever.
Leader: He has gained renown by his wonderful deeds;
People: the Lord is gracious and merciful.
Leader: Then let us worship God: Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.
- Psalm 111:1-4
* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 229 From All That Dwell Below the Skies
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Eternal God, maker of the earth and all that is in it, you have created us for worship
and joy. Yet, in sin, we have hidden our faces and shuffled away. We take
the part of spectator rather than joining in the joyous dance of faith. Forgive our
shrinking away. It is our fear that keeps us from living into the Gospel. So
cleanse us we pray, from all that frightens us, and bring us into your presence
that we may worship in spirit and truth. We pray this in the name of Jesus, and
for his sake. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord;
People: “I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds,”
Leader: He also adds,
People: “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.”
Leader: Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin. Believe
the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, our sins are forgiven. - Hebrews 10:16-18
*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 280)
The Lord has promised good to me, his word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be as long as life endures.
* THE PEACE OF CHRIST
(Children ages 3-8 are invited to leave after the Baptism for special classes. Three through five-year-olds in
Room 011; K - 2nd grade in Room 001.
THE CONCERNS OF THE CHURCH

THE CHORAL RESPONSE Baptized in Water Gaelic melody
THE FIRST LESSON Job 38:1-11 Nancy Hamilton
(page 458 in the pew Bible, OT)
THE ANTHEM Abide With Me arr. Gilbert Martin
Abide with me, fast falls the eventide; the darkness deepens, Lord, with me abide! When other helpers
fail and comforts flee, help of the helpless, O abide with me. I need Thy presence every passing hour;
what but thy grace can foil the tempter’s power? Who, like thyself, my guide and stay can be? Through
cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me. I fear no foe, with thee at hand to bless; ills have no weight,
and tears no bitterness. Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if thou abide
with me. Hold thou thy cross before my closing eyes; shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
Heaven’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee; in life, in death, O Lord, abide with me. Amen.
THE SECOND LESSON Mark 4:35-41 (page 36 in the pew Bible, NT)
THE SERMON “Risk Heresy” Baron Mullis
* THE HYMN 562 Eternal Father, Strong to Save
* THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus
Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the
Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he
descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into
heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he
shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy
catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection
of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy
will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive
us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.
Amen.
THE OFFERTORY Voluntary in D Major William Boyce
* THE DOXOLOGY AND PRAYER OF DEDICATION (Hymn 592)
* THE HYMN 412 Eternal God, Whose Power Upholds (verses 1, 2, and 5)
* THE CHARGE AND BENEDICTION
* THE CHORAL RESPONSE May the Road Rise to Meet You (Gaelic Blessing) Lee Turner
May the road rise to meet you, may the wind be at your back, may the sun shine warmly on your face,
may the rain fall softly on your field; and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Amen.
