FLOWERS THIS SUNDAY
The flowers in the sanctuary are given to the glory of God and in memory of Doreen Ryan Tunnell by her husband Trenton Tunnell, Jr., and her sons Trenton, Spencer, and Steven.
THANKS TO CHANCEL CHOIR
We offer our thanks to Morningside’s Chancel Choir for their musical offerings this summer. Today they are enjoying a well-deserved day of rest.
VOLUNTEER AT FOOD PANTRY
Support Intown Collaborative Ministries by sorting at their food pantry 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, July 14. E-mail shepherd Nancy Collins ncollins0209@gmail.com with any questions.
HYMN-SING SUNDAY
You’re in charge of hymn selection on Sunday, July 15, as we have the opportunity to call out our favorites, for the congregation to sing. So get ready to page through the hymnal for those melodies you love!
MISSION CAMP
It looks like we will have at least 31 attending Mission Camp July 23-27. Monday, Thursday and Friday, we will need at least ten drivers each day (or half day) to get to our outreach destinations. See needs on bulletin board near church office or contact Melinda today to sign up to accompany kids to locations such as Atria Senior Community, Atlanta Humane Society, Gateway Childcare or the Intown Collaborative Ministries’ food pantry. If you are seeking a big summer adventure, join us for overnight hike on Tuesday and Wednesday.
COUPLES GROUP
If you're in town on July 13, we hope you'll be part of an evening hosted by Carol and Bill Southwood at a restaurant to be announced.
Other upcoming events:
- Party at Sarah and Peter Chatel's pool on August 12.
- Opportunity (in exploration stage) for a one-day MPC Couples communication retreat in the late fall, led by the Overton Institute, of which Katie Davis is executive director -- if that sounds interesting to you, let us know July 13 and other details to follow!
As always, all couples—members and visitors—are invited and most welcome! RSVP to Kathy and Alan Bremer at 404.872.3001, kdbremer@bellsouth.net.
CLIFTON SANCTUARY MINISTRIES
MPC is providing a Welcome Home Basket for each man at Clifton transitioning from homelessness by moving into their own home. We will collect household pantry items for these baskets through July 15. A list of requested items can be found on the bulletin board in the Welcome Center. Please contact Shepherd David Johnston with any questions at 678.705.1628 or dmjohnst@gmail.com.
GEORGIA SHAKESPEARE OUTING
Illyria, 12th Night the Musical is a hit – a shipwreck, separated twins and love promises to entertain with this musical adaptation! MPC is off to the theater for a 7 p.m. performance on Sunday, July 22. Group tickets are $30 each (made out to MPC). Reserve your spot today by turning in check. We can also share a meal together beforehand on picnic grounds. Contact Melinda Sandkam with any questions. Deadline: July 8.
YOUTH NEWS
Don’t forget to buy one of those $10 “stock” certificates from one of our youth planning to travel to the Montreat Middle School Conference in South Carolina this month. Hey—you get a report back from the kids plus a hot-dog lunch on Sunday, August 5, after worship.
THINK ABOUT RETREATING!
It’s not too soon to mark off Oct. 19-21 on your calendar and plan to get away to cool and lovely Montreat, NC, for our fourth annual all-church retreat. Each year, it’s been an event to remember for the whole family. Watch for details in the next couple of months.
SANCTUARY FLOWERS
A flower calendar is posted on the bulletin board in the hallway outside the Session Room, and if you wish to give flowers in honor or in memory of a loved one, we invite you to write your name and phone number next to the desired date. It is possible to share a date with other members if you want to give one arrangement or you may sign up alone to give both arrangements. Contact Anna Best in the church office office@morningsidepc.org for more information.
MEALS ON WHEELS
Driver needed for Meals on Wheels route for the second Wednesday of every month beginning in September. Please contact Sarah Brownlee at rsbrownlee1046@att.net if you can help.
CHURCH OFFICE
The church office will be closed Wednesday, July 4, in observance of Fourth of July.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT MORNINGSIDE
Adult Sunday School Class—9:45 a.m. in Room 201—The Short Course
What you didn’t know you could learn in Confirmation and why it matters for adults.
Next Sunday, July 8 we continue our discussion-based series that will take major themes from our Spring 2013 Youth Confirmation class, articulate those themes for adults, and frame them with questions related to personal and communal discipleship. Themes are complimentary but not exclusive – you are invited to join us as your schedule permits. This series, taught by Chris Peters, is designed as a refresher, primer, and thought-provoker for adults!
July 8—God’s Story: Father, Son, Holy What?
A discussion on the Trinity with the Apostle’s Creed and PC (USA) Brief Statement of Faith as our guides.
Children’s Classes
Today the Preschool class will learn how Eli helped young Samuel hear God in the story Samuel, Samuel! The K-2 class will hear the familiar story of David and Goliath. David claimed God's protection and that led to his victory.
