THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Gracious God, you have made every living thing, placing us in a world of wonders
you sustain in your very being. And yet we think this is not so. We view your
action with disenchanted eyes not knowing that you are carrying us every day of
our lives. We place our faith in disciplines of our own making, thinking we can
contain the enormous wonder of the cosmos with equations and discoveries – not
realizing that in so doing we exchange faith in you and your creative power for
mere idols. Forgive our lack of faith. Enchant our minds with a vision of your gracious
sustenance such that wherever we look, we are surrounded by your grace.
We pray all these things through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: “For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us
who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written:
People: ‘I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the
discerning I will thwart.’
Leader: For God’s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God’s weakness is stronger
than human strength.” Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. - 1 Corinthians 1:18-19; 25

glory of your name:
Sanctus: Holy, holy, holy, Lord, God of power and might, (Hymn 581)
