THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
Moralists (archbishops included) can thunder away as much as they like; but they'll make no difference unless and until people see that there is something transforming and exhilarating about the prospect of a whole community rejoicing together - being glad of each other's happiness and safety. This alone is what will save us from the traps of ludicrous financial greed, of environmental recklessness, of collective fear of strangers and collective contempt for the unsuccessful and marginal... - from Archbishop Rowan Williams's sermon on the occasion of Queen Elizabeth's diamond jubilee.
VOLUNTEER AT FOOD PANTRY
Support Intown Collaborative Ministries by sorting donations at their food pantry 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. this Saturday, July 14. If you have questions, contact shepherd Nancy Collins ncollins0209@gmail.com, or sign up on the Mission bulletin board.
HYMN-SING SUNDAY
You're in charge of hymn selection this Sunday, July 15, as we have the opportunity to call out our favorites for the congregation to sing. So get ready to page through the hymnal for those melodies you love!
FELLOWSHIP THIS SUNDAY
Please plan to stay after worship this Sunday, July 15 as Brenda Fishpaw and our young adults host the fellowship hour in honor of Brian Johnson and Bryan Rogers and their sons Jason, Austin, and Ben. The boys became part of the Johnson-Rogers family last month. We are thrilled they are here, and we look forward to watching them grow up at Morningside.
CLIFTON SANCTUARY MINISTRIES
MPC would like to provide a Welcome Home Basket for each man at Clifton transitioning from homelessness into their own home. We will collect household pantry items for these baskets through this Sunday, July 15. A list of requested items can be found on the bulletin board in the Welcome Center. Please contact Shepherd David Johnston with any questions at 678.705.1628 or dmjohnst@gmail.com.
GEORGIA JUSTICE PROJECT
Join other MPC volunteers in supporting the Back2School event on Saturday, July 21 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sign up to help with fun activities at Dunbar Gymnasium (477 Windsor St. SW, 30312). Contact Bill Meansbillmeans@bellsouth.net with any questions.
MISSION CAMP VOLUNTEERS
We will have 33 children attending Mission Camp July 23-27. We need 10 drivers to transport the kids to our outreach destinations on Monday, Thursday and Friday. To fill all 10 slots we still need: 2 drivers for Monday; 4 for Thursday; and 6 for Friday. Contact Melinda today to sign up to accompany kids to locations such as Atria Senior Community, Atlanta Humane Society, Gateway Childcare or the Intown Collaborative Ministries' food pantry. If you are seeking a big summer adventure, join us for an overnight hike on Tuesday and Wednesday.
YOUTH NEWS
Don't forget to buy one of those $10 "stock" certificates from one of our youth planning to travel to the Montreat Middle School Conference in South Carolina this month. You will receive a report from the kids plus a hot-dog lunch on Sunday, August 5, after worship.
