"Sing Praise to God"

Text: Psalm 24

HYMN-SING SUNDAY

You’re in charge of hymn selection this morning as we have the opportunity to call out our favorites for the congregation to sing.  So get ready to page through the hymnal for those melodies you love!

MISSION CAMP VOLUNTEERS

We will have 33 children attending Mission Camp July 23-27.  We need 10 drivers to transport the kids to our outreach destinations on Monday, Thursday and Friday.  To fill all 10 slots we still need: 1 driver for Monday; 1 for Thursday; and 2 for all day Friday, plus 4 more for 12-3 p.m. on Friday. Contact Melinda today to sign up to accompany kids to locations such as Atria Senior Community, Atlanta Humane Society, Gateway Childcare or the Intown Collaborative Ministries' food pantry.

WHERE IN THE WORLD IS CHRIS PETERS?

Did you know that Chris Peters, our Youth Director and Summer Seminary Intern, will be a 2012 Montreat Youth Conference Co-Director? From July 17 to August 4, Chris will oversee small groups and recreation events during two weeks of youth conferences that will be attended by 2,000 high school youth! Chris invites you to follow his journey online through a picture blog administrated by Chris and Rev. Diana Bell, the “Indoors” Co-Director, at http://perfectlyomega.wordpress.com/.

GEORGIA JUSTICE PROJECT

Join other MPC volunteers in supporting the Back2School event next Saturday, July 21 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sign up on mission bulletin board to help with fun activities at Dunbar Gymnasium (477 Windsor St. SW, 30312). Contact Bill Means billmeans @bellsouth.net with any questions.

SUMMER DINNER AT CLIFTON

The kids at Mission Camp will prepare a dinner for 30 men at Clifton Sanctuary Ministries for Saturday, July 28. If you can help in the kitchen 9-11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 27, contact Melinda Sandkam msandkam@morningsidepc.org. Contact David Johnston dmjohnst@hotmail.com if you can help serve and transport the meal Saturday evening.

EARTH COVENANT MINISTRIES

ECM, a partnership composed of ten congregations of the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta who direct and implement its mission of creation care, is this year’s winner of the Restoring Creation Award. Presbyterians for Earth Care presented Earth Covenant Ministries with this national recognition award at their Annual Meeting and luncheon at the Presbyterian General Assembly in Pittsburgh, July 5, 2012.

GEORGIA SHAKESPEARE OUTING

Illyria, 12th Night the Musical is a hit – a shipwreck, separated twins and love promise to entertain in this musical adaptation!  MPC is off to the theater for a 7 p.m. performance on Sunday, July 22.  Group tickets have been purchased; however, there is an extra ticket available.  If you would like to attend, contact Melinda today.

YOUTH NEWS

Don’t forget to buy one of those $10 “stock” certificates from one of our youth planning to travel to the Montreat Middle School Conference in South Carolina this month.  Hey—you get a report back from the kids plus a hot-dog lunch on Sunday, August 5, after worship.

HIGHER GROUND

The Higher Ground blog is an ongoing series of insightful messages from four long-time Atlanta faith leaders - the Rev. Joanna Adams, Imam Plemon El-Amin, the Rev. Joseph Roberts and Rabbi Alvin Sugarman. Take part in the Higher Ground blog and join the movement to inspire positive change. You can find the latest blog at http://www.highergroundgroup.org/.

THINK ABOUT RETREATING!

It’s not too soon to mark off Oct. 19-21 on your calendar and plan to get away to cool and lovely Montreat, NC, for our fourth annual all-church retreat.  Each year, it’s been an event to remember for the whole family.  Watch for details in the next couple of months.

SANCTUARY FLOWERS

A flower calendar is posted on the bulletin board in the hallway outside the Session Room. If you wish to give flowers in honor or in memory of a loved one, we invite you to write your name and phone number next to the desired date. It is possible to share a date with other members if you want to give one arrangement, or you may sign up alone to give both arrangements. Contact Anna Best in the church office office @morningsidepc.org for more information.

OUR SYMPATHY TO

Gary and Monirah Womack on the death of Monirah’s father, Rev. E.L. Taylor, Jr., on June 27 in Lexington, South Carolina.
