THORNWELL OFFERING

Today, MPC will collect an offering for Thornwell Home for Children in South Carolina. This home serves children from Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. Please plan on giving generously in the envelopes decorated by Mission Camp kids!

SERVING DINNER AT JOURNEY

CONGRATULATIONS TO WALTER HUFF

Congratulations to Walter on his appointment as adjunct associate professor of music (choral conducting) at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.  He will maintain his positions as Organist/Choirmaster at Morningside and as Chorus Master of the Atlanta Opera. Walter adds: “This is such a unique opportunity in the field of choral/opera education, to be able to prepare and guide students in each opera production’s ensemble, plus have the privilege to mentor conducting students in the art of chorus mastering.”  

OUR SYMPATHY

to Bobbie McCrackin on the recent death of her husband Alec McCrackin. A memorial service will be held at Morningside this Tuesday, August 14 at 4 p.m. Reception follows at the McCrackin home (790 Castle Falls Dr., 30329).

ICM COLLECTION

MPC will collect canned meats - tuna, chicken, Vienna sausages (preferably pop-tops), and crackers beginning this Sunday, August 12 through August 26.  Bring items to the Welcome Center baskets. Contact shepherd Nancy Collins ncollins209 @gmail.com with any questions.

FARE THEE WELL TO JAMES KLOTZ

Join the whole MPC congregation next Sunday, August 19 during Fellowship Hour to thank James Klotz for his development and leadership of the Handbell Choir and wish him well as he begins his first year at Princeton Seminary in September.

MPC YOUTH TO WELCOME 6th GRADERS!

Are you a family with a 6th grader? Did you know this year begins your child's journey as a part of Morningside Youth? MPC Youth will host a Welcome Event for new 6th grade youth on Sunday, August 19 from 2 p.m.- 4 p.m. at church! We'll play some get-to-know-you and just plain fun games. Also mark your calendar for our Annual Youth and Parents Night on Sunday, September 9, from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. Both events will begin in the Welcome Center. LGBT & FRIENDS

CONGREGATIONAL LUNCH

We are looking for volunteers to help us set up, serve, and clean up during this time of fellowship. We're also looking for someone to help us coordinate with the caterer, so if you have an interest in helping, please contact Bonnie Daneker bb_daneker@yahoo.com. YOGA RESUMES

Atlanta native and Morningside member, Pam Sharpe, is certified to teach yoga through the Kripalu Yoga Center in Lenox, MA and through the Esther Myers Studio in Toronto, Canada. As a yoga teacher and personal trainer, Pam has enjoyed working with hundreds of students over the past 3 decades. She is happy to offer a gentle yoga class at Morningside on Tuesday mornings this fall, beginning September 11. The class is open to Morningside members, and friends of Morningside. Pam and husband Ken have just returned from The Kripalu Center where she studied "yoga for scoliosis" with senior Iyengar teacher Elise Miller. She is excited to share what she has learned about back care with her class. To register or for more information, contact Pam at yogapam@bellsouth.net.

NEWS FROM PRESCHOOL

Teachers return tomorrow to prepare their classrooms for the almost 100 students beginning the school year at Morningside Presbyterian Preschool on August 27.  During their two weeks of training and preparation, a CPR class is offered, which is open to all for $20.  Contact Director Sarah Tomaka mpp@morningsidepc.org to sign up for 9am-12noon CPR and First Aid training on Friday, August 24.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT MORNINGSIDE

Adult Sunday School Class—9:45 a.m. in Room 201

Next Sunday, August 19, we will have a two-part class using the curriculum “Thanksgiving in all Things.” This class will be facilitated by Philip Hawkins, and the scripture will be Ephesians 5:15-20. The second part of our time will be a feedback/discussion of what we might do in the class starting September 9.

Children’s Classes

The Preschool Class will hear about Jonah's underwater adventure as they hear A Big Fish Story. Early elementary children will hear and respond to the story of the boy who gives up his lunch so Jesus can feed a crowd with it. 4th & 5th grades will experience a lesson on the Offering as a part of the worship service.
