* THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Cry out with joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness.
Come into God’s presence with singing!
People: For the Lord is a gracious God, whose mercy is everlasting, and
whose faithfulness endures to all generations.
Leader: Praise the Lord!
People: Let us worship God: Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.
- Psalm 100: 1-2, 5
* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 476 O Worship the King, All Glorious Above!
(verses 1 through 5)
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Eternal God, we have sought your blessing upon us, yet even as we ask, we
know that we cannot merit it. Our lives stand, not as testimony to your goodness,
but as reminders of our sin. We have failed at our calling to be your people
and show to the world who you are. And so, in honesty we come seeking your
healing touch upon our lives; your cleansing Word to our sin. Forgive us, we
pray, for our failures, and help us live as though we are the recipients of grace
upon grace. We ask in the name of Jesus, and for His sake. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: Hear the Good News! The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ
Jesus came into the world to save sinners.
People: He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, that we might be dead
to sin and alive to all that is good.
Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, our sins are forgiven. - 1 Timothy 1:15; 1 Peter 2:24
*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 280)
The Lord has promised good to me, his word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be as long as life endures.
* THE PEACE OF CHRIST
(Children ages 3-10 are invited to leave after the Peace of Christ for special classes. Threes, fours & fives
are in Room 011; K-1st grade in Room 003; 2nd-3rd grade in Room 001; 4th-5th grade in Room 005.)
THE CONCERNS OF THE CHURCH
(Visitors and members are invited to sign the blue friendship register pad and pass it down the pew.)
THE FIRST LESSON Ephesians 5:15-20 (page 183 in the pew Bible, NT)
THE ANTHEM Lauda Anima (Praise My Soul, the King of Heaven) Mark Andrews
Praise, my soul, the King of heaven; to his feet thy tribute bring. Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,
evermore his praises sing: Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise the everlasting King! Fatherlike He tends and
spares us; well our feeble frame He knows; in His hands He gently bears us, rescues us from all our foes.
Alleluia! Alleluia! Widely yet His mercy flows. Angels in the height adore Him! Ye behold Him face to
face; saints triumphant bow before Him, gathered in from every race. Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise with us
the God of grace. Amen.
THE SECOND LESSON 1 Kings 2:10-12, 3:3-14 (page 290 in the pew Bible, OT)
THE SERMON “Wisdom” Baron Mullis
* THE HYMN 298 There’s a Wideness in God’s Mercy
* THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus
Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the
Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he
descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into
heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he
shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy
catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection
of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy
will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive
us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.
Amen.
THE OFFERTORY Ring Praises Unto Thee Valerie Stephenson
Handbell Choir (James Klotz, director)
* THE DOXOLOGY AND PRAYER OF DEDICATION (Hymn 592)
* THE HYMN 361 How Firm a Foundation (verses 1 through 5)
* THE CHARGE AND BENEDICTION
* THE CHORAL RESPONSE Immortal, Invisible Eric Thiman
Great Father of Glory pure Father of Light, thine Angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight; all laud we
would render: O help us to see 'tis only the splendor of Light hideth Thee. Amen
