24TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Leader: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.

* THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, forever,
People: With my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations.
Leader: I declare that your steadfast love is established forever,
People: Your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens.
Leader: Let us worship the Lord our God.

THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Eternal God, we know that you have created us for good purposes. You have made us for genuine fellowship with one another and with you. And yet too of-ten our actions do violence to bonds of community that you would have us nur-ture. Too often our words hurt rather than heal. Too often our actions undercut rather than build up. Forgive us, we pray for the ways in which we fail to live the good purposes for which you create us. Renew our hearts and our minds in the way you would have us live, and create again for yourself servants of your peace. We pray all of these things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, himself the prince of peace, Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: Should we continue in sin in order that grace may abound?
People: By no means! How can he who died to sin go on living in it?
Leader: Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
People: Therefore we have been buried with him by baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the father, so we too might walk in newness of life.
Leader: Believe the promise of the gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.

Before the hills in order stood, or earth received its frame, from everlasting Thou art God, to endless years the same.
* THE PEACE OF CHRIST

descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection

Give us this day our daily bread; and for-give us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, for-ever. Amen.

Blessed are the true peacemakers, with contentment for the fold, they cling to promises of heaven, working in the field of souls.
