SANCTUARY FLOWERS

The flowers in the sanctuary are given by Charlsie Woolley to the glory of God and in honor of Mary Ann Woolley Cadiente and Lily Brooks Woolley whose birthdays are today October 14 and in memory of Dan Woolley who died October 14.

YOUTH GROUP

Our youth will have a lock-in next Friday, October 19 through Saturday, October 20. For more information contact Chris Peters chrispeters@morningsidepc.org.

SUPPORT MEN AT JOURNEY SHELTER

This evening MPC will provide dinner to the men staying at Journey. If you can help, please check with Curt Barrett emailcurt@mindspring.com for any remaining needs.

INTOWN COLLABORATIVE MINISTRIES

MPC will collect items to restock ICM’s food pantry beginning today October 14 and continuing through October 28. Bring your canned meats (tuna, Vienna sausages, meaty stews -  pop tops helpful) to the Welcome Center baskets along with plastic grocery bags for distribution. ICM provides food to those in need in 30306/30307 zip codes.

OFFICER NOMINATING COMMITTEE

Officer nominating forms are available in the Narthex and Welcome Center. Please submit the name(s) of someone to be considered for the Office of Deacon or Elder. As you think about possible nominations, keep in mind what the Book of Order states about church leaders, “In addition to possessing the necessary gifts and abilities, those who undertake particular ministries should be persons of strong faith, dedicated discipleship, and love of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.” (G-2.0104). Please prayerfully consider your nominee(s) then ask their permission before submitting their name for consideration to the Officer Nominating Committee. All nominations are due today, October 14. LGBT & FRIENDS

All are invited to join LGBT & Friends this Tuesday, October 16 as Rob Payne facilitates this month’s discussion: “The Complexities of Voting Gay and Christian in the 2012 Election.” LGBT & Friends welcomes all who wish to grow and be energized through Christian fellowship and service.  The meeting, including dinner, will be at the home of Rob Payne (1095 Balmoral Rd, 30319), 7 to  9 p.m.  RSVP to Michael Siedschlag at michaelmspnyc @yahoo.com.

LIBRARY WORKDAY

Contact Melinda Sandkam msandkam @morningsidepc.org to participate in the library workday on Tuesday, October 23, 9 a.m. to 12 noon. to make the library more accessible for our church and preschool communities.

LET’S BUILD A PLAYGROUND!

MPC will partner with local churches to help the congregation of El Nazareno Presbyterian to create a playground for the community in Hapeville on Saturday, October 27, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. To volunteer to help, contact shepherds Jack Klotz jacksklotz@gmail.com and Lloyd Prince lloydprince@comcast.net.

SCOTTISH PLAY
Morningside has reserved group tickets for the 2 p.m. performance of “Macbeth” at Georgia Shakespeare on Sunday, October 28. Turn in your $30 check to Melinda Sandkam by today to reserve your seat.

MORNINGSIDE “CARMEN” OUTING

MPC will have a group outing to see Atlanta Opera’s Carmen on Friday, November 16, at 8 p.m. The performance will be at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre on Cobb Galleria Parkway. OUR HOUSE

The mission of Our House is to break the chains of homelessness by providing early childhood education and comprehensive support services for families experiencing homelessness.

Lydia Circle is working with MPP in collecting Halloween costumes for the Our House children ages infant-5 years. See the Preschool Halloween Board with pumpkin tags for each child, and please bring in a new/gently-used costume to fit one of tag requests (pin pumpkin tag to the costume and place in the Preschool or Welcome Center bins by October 22.

October brings cooler weather and our annual collection of mittens, gloves, hats and scarves for the children at Our House. Place donations on the Mitten Tree near the Church Parlor by October 26.

"The Book of the Twelve" - the Voices of Israel's Prophets
Join Morningside's Adult Class this Sunday as we continue our series wrestling to discern God's word to Israel in their context and examine its implications for ours.  This weeks focus will be the books of Joel and Amos.

Children’s Classes

The Pre-K class will hear A Girl Named Rebekah to learn how Abraham chose a wife for his son. Early Elementary classes will learn how David's son, Solomon, built a temple for God in Jerusalem. The Older Elementary class will have a lesson on Creeds as a component of Worship.
