We are delighted that our Pastor Emerita, Rev. Joanna Adams, will deliver this morning’s sermon. We are indeed honored and privileged to have Joanna back among us.
CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
The Session has called a Congregational Meeting for today following worship. The purpose of this meeting is to elect elders and deacons to the class of 2015, and to elect the class of 2013 to the Officer Nominating Committee. The Commitment Video will be shown, and child care will continue.
MISSION TRIP
Please keep MPC members/friends in your prayers as they travel to New Orleans to work alongside Rebuilding Hope in New Orleans this Thursday, November 1 through November 4. Shirley Adair, Ellen and Roland Behm, Shawn Holaway, Brad Odom, Melinda Sandkam, Deborah Schoch and John Watson will work with Habitat for Humanity and will assist in hurricane recovery work.
HANDBELL CHOIR
Morningside’s Handbell Choir starts a new rehearsal cycle November 1. Handbells are a great way to meet people and to contribute to the Music Ministry. If you’re interested in joining us, contact Jeff Peters (jeffcpeters@gmail.com).
DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME
Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. next Sunday, November 4. We "fall back" and gain an extra hour of sleep. Be sure to set your clocks back one hour before going to bed Saturday night.
THINKING ABOUT JOINING MORNINGSIDE

ALL SAINTS' DAY
Next Sunday, November 4 we observe All Saints' Day as a congregation and give thanks to God for the lives of loved ones who have departed. During the Great Prayer of Thanksgiving in the communion liturgy, thanks will be given for Morningside members and friends who have entered the Church Triumphant in the past year. Contact the church office (office@morningsidepc.org) by Wednesday, October 31 with your loved ones’ name.
CONGREGATIONAL LUNCH
All are welcome at lunch following worship on Sunday, November 11. Suggested donation: $10, adult; $5, child. RSVP by filling out the enclosed form and placing it in the box in the church office marked “November 11 Congregational Lunch.” Your RSVP helps us to order an accurate amount of food.
MPP ALL-STAR BOOK FAIR
Giving kids access to good books will motivate them to read, and this annual book fair brings a selection of fun, engaging, and affordable books to MPP! ADVOCACY MEETING
The Presbytery's Public Advocacy Committee will offer a fall educational event in advance of the 2013 state legislative session Thursday, November 8, 7:30 to 10 a.m. at Trinity Presbyterian (3003 Howell Mill Road, 30327). Breakfast will be followed by discussion with leading advocates for the Affordable Care Act & Medicaid, Legislative Ethics Reform, and Criminal Justice Reform. BIG FUN - NOVEMBER 10
Elementary age kids are welcome at the Saturday, November 10 Big Fun. Our outreach projects will be to our preschool community, preparing corn muffins and pumpkin ice cream for Monday's Thanksgiving Gathering. We will learn about the Jesse Tree and paint some new backdrops for the Christmas pageant. RSVP to Melinda Sandkam msandkam@morningsidepc.org by Monday, November 5 for your child to attend. MPC GIVES THANKS TO PRESCHOOL COMMUNITY
Our annual Thanksgiving Gathering will be Monday, November 12 from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Join us for a free dinner with crafts, games, face painting and music by the Cherub Choir. We will kick-off our canned-food drive for the Atlanta Community Food Bank, so please bring non-perishable items to the dinner. THEOLOGY ON TAP
Philip Hawkins will host the Morningside men for their monthly get-together on Tuesday, November 13, at 7 p.m. The meeting will be at the home of his neighbor Robert Hicks (2332 Bry-Mar Drive, 30345). This is a change from the regular schedule due to Election Day. Baron Mullis will lead our discussion of “What are the ethics of aging?” (How do we care faithfully for those of advanced age in our midst, family and friends?) MORNINGSIDE “CARMEN” OUTING
MPC will have a group outing to see Atlanta Opera’s Carmen on Friday, November 16, at 8 p.m. The performance will be at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre on Cobb Galleria Parkway. INTOWN COLLABORATIVE MINISTRIES
MPC is collecting food through today October 28 to restock the ICM food pantry . Bring your canned meats to the Welcome Center. ICM provides food to those in need in 30306/30307 zip codes.
THANKSGIVING AT CLIFTON
On Saturday, November 24 following Thanksgiving Day MPC will order pizzas for the 30 men at Clifton as they enjoy football and a restful day. We need volunteers to provide the salad and dessert for the meal. If you are able to provide either to Clifton in the Candler Park neighborhood by 5:45 p.m. please contact David Johnston (dmjohnst@hotmail.com). We invite you to stay and enjoy a little fellowship with the men by also serving dinner!
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AT MORNINGSIDE

Next Sunday, October 28, our class will be led by Drew Stockstill, and his topic will be "The Book of the Twelve:" The Voices of Israel's Prophets. Join Morningside's Adult Sunday School class this fall as we explore the rich texts of ancient Israel's prophets.
Children’s Classes
The Preschool class will hear Plenty to Eat and discover how a famine reunites Joseph with his family. Early elementary classes will study Psalm 23 and talk about the ways God is like a loving shepherd. The older elementary class will have a lesson on Scripture as part of Worship.
