"The One and Only"

Texts:Psalm 34:1-10; Hebrews 7:23-28

WELCOME, JOANNA ADAMS

We are delighted that our Pastor Emerita, Rev. Joanna Adams, will deliver this morning’s sermon. We are indeed honored and privileged to have Joanna back among us.

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING

The Session has called a Congregational Meeting for today following worship. The purpose of this meeting is to elect elders and deacons to the class of 2015, and to elect the class of 2013 to the Officer Nominating Committee. The Commitment Video will be shown, and child care will continue.

MISSION TRIP

Please keep MPC members/friends in your prayers as they travel to New Orleans to work alongside  Rebuilding Hope in New Orleans this Thursday, November 1 through November 4. Shirley Adair, Ellen and Roland Behm, Shawn Holaway, Brad Odom, Melinda Sandkam, Deborah Schoch and John Watson will work with Habitat for Humanity and will assist in hurricane recovery work.

HANDBELL CHOIR

Morningside’s Handbell Choir starts a new rehearsal cycle November 1. Handbells are a great way to meet people and to contribute to the Music Ministry. If you’re interested in joining us, contact Jeff Peters (jeffcpeters@gmail.com).

DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME

Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. next Sunday, November 4. We "fall back" and gain an extra hour of sleep. Be sure to set your clocks back one hour before going to bed Saturday night.

THINKING ABOUT JOINING MORNINGSIDE

Morningside will offer visitors a New Members Class next Sunday, November 4 at 9:45 a.m. in the Session Room. For more information or to register, please contact Baron Mullis (404.876.7396, ext. 11; baron.mullis@morningsidepc.org).

ALL SAINTS' DAY

Next Sunday, November 4 we observe All Saints' Day as a congregation and give thanks to God for the lives of loved ones who have departed. During the Great Prayer of Thanksgiving in the communion liturgy, thanks will be given for Morningside members and friends who have entered the Church Triumphant in the past year. Contact the church office (office@morningsidepc.org) by Wednesday, October 31 with your loved ones’ name.

CONGREGATIONAL LUNCH

All are welcome at lunch following worship on Sunday, November 11. Suggested donation: $10, adult; $5, child. RSVP by filling out the enclosed form and placing it in the box in the church office marked “November 11 Congregational Lunch.” Your RSVP helps us to order an accurate amount of food.

MPP ALL-STAR BOOK FAIR

Giving kids access to good books will motivate them to read, and this annual book fair brings a selection of fun, engaging, and affordable books to MPP! Purchase a book for your child, MPP or Our House’s library on line at http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/mpp or at the church on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (November 5, 7, and 9) from 8:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.

ADVOCACY MEETING

The Presbytery's Public Advocacy Committee will offer a fall educational event in advance of the 2013 state legislative session Thursday, November 8, 7:30 to 10 a.m. at Trinity Presbyterian (3003 Howell Mill Road, 30327). Volunteers are needed.

MPC GIVES THANKS TO PRESCHOOL COMMUNITY

Our annual Thanksgiving Gathering will be Monday, November 12 from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Join us for a free dinner with crafts, games, face painting and music by the Cherub Choir. THEOLOGY ON TAP

Philip Hawkins will host the Morningside men for their monthly get-together on Tuesday, November 13, at 7 p.m. The meeting will be at the home of his neighbor Robert Hicks (2332 Bry-Mar Drive, 30345). This is a change from the regular schedule due to Election Day. Baron Mullis will lead our discussion of “What are the ethics of aging?” (How do we care faithfully for those of advanced age in our midst, family and friends?)  RSVP to the church office office@morningsidepc.org.
