THE GATHERING Baron Mullis

* THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Praise the Lord!
People: I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the company of
the upright, in the congregation.
Leader: Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who delight in them,
People: full of honor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures
forever.
Leader: He has gained renown by his wonderful deeds;
People: the Lord is gracious and merciful.
Leader: Then let us worship God, our creator, redeemer and sustainer. Amen.
- Psalm 111:1-4

* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 142 All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name!

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Eternal God, we have sought your blessing upon us, yet even as we ask, we know
that we cannot merit it. Our lives stand, not as testimony to your goodness, but as reminders
of our sin. We have failed at our calling to be your people and show to the
world who you are. And so, in honesty we come seeking your healing touch upon
our lives; your cleansing Word to our sin. Forgive us, we pray, for our failures, and
help us live as though we are the recipients of grace upon grace. We ask in the name
of Jesus, and for our sake. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: This is the message that we heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light
and in him is no darkness at all.
People: If we say that we have fellowship with him while we are walking in
darkness, we lie and do not do what is true. But if we walk in the
light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another
and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. - 1 John 1:5-7

* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 210)

God, to endless years the same.

THE MINUTE MESSAGE Caroline Tanner

THE FIRST LESSON Psalm 34:1-10 (page 480 in the pew Bible, OT)

THE ANTHEM Rejoice in the Lord Alway Henry Purcell
Rejoice in the Lord alway, and again I say, rejoice! Be careful for nothing, but in everything by
prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God; and the
peace of God which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Jesus
Christ our Lord.

THE SECOND LESSON Hebrews 7:23-28 (page 208 in the pew Bible, NT)

THE SERMONThe One and Only” Joanna Adams

* THE HYMN 306 Fairest Lord Jesus

* THE APOSTLES’ CREED Drew Stockstill
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus
Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the
Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he
descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into
heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he
shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy
catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection
of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy
will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive
us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.
Amen.

THE OFFERTORY Processional Air (from Water Music Suite) Handel, arr. Sanders
Handbell Choir (Jeff Peters, director)
Cynthia Patterson, violin; Richard Patterson, cello

* THE DOXOLOGY AND PRAYER OF DEDICATION (Hymn 592)

* THE HYMN 423 Jesus Shall Reign Where’er the Sun (verses 1 through 5)

* THE CHARGE AND BENEDICTION

* THE CHORAL RESPONSE Light Dawns on a Weary World Rowan
Light dawns on a weary world when eyes begin to see all people’s dignity. Light dawns on a weary
world: the promised day of justice comes. Hope blooms in a weary world when creatures, once forlorn,
find wilderness reborn. Hope blooms in a weary world: the promised green of Eden comes.
The trees shall clap their hands; the dry lands, gush with springs; the hills and mountains shall break
forth with singing! We shall go out in joy, and be led forth in peace, as all the world in wonder echoes,
Shalom.
