WORSHIP NOVEMBER 4, 2012
ALL SAINTS SUNDAY
THE GATHERING Chris Peters
Leader: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
THE PRELUDE Walter Huff, organist
THE INTROIT God, Who Touches Earth with Beauty Kemp
Let the Whole Creation Cry LeDoux
Treble Choir and Women’s Ensemble (Rebecca Shipley, director)
* THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations.
People: Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had
formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting,
you are God.
Leader: You turn us back to dust, and say, ‘Turn back, you mortals.’ For a thousand
years in your sight are like yesterday when it is past, or like a watch in the night.
People: The days of our life are seventy years, or perhaps eighty, if we are
strong; even then, their span is only toil and trouble, they are soon
gone, and we fly away.
Leader: Let us worship the eternal God, Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.
- Psalm 90:1-4,10
* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 451 Ye Watchers and Ye Holy Ones
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Eternal God, it is in you that my being rests. It is you who have made me,
you who sustained me all the days of my life; it is in you that I trust in death. I
read from the pages of scripture that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. I hear
the words of Jesus telling me to come to him when I am weary and carrying heavy
burdens. I am blessed. And yet, O Lord, I need more. I have sinned and I need
your redemptive power. I need forgiveness. So reach out to me once more, I
pray, and lead me in the way everlasting, for I pray it in the name of my Lord Je-
sus Christ, in whom I trust. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the
sheep.
People: Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know
me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. And I lay down
my life for the sheep.”
Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. - John 10:11,14
* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 473)
For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child, friends on earth, and friends
above, for all gentle thoughts and mild, Lord of all to thee we raise this our hymn of
grateful praise.

THE MINUTE MESSAGE Michael Perez
THE FIRST LESSON Psalm 24 (page 475 in the pew Bible, OT)
THE ANTHEM Jacob’s Vision Traditional English tune
As Jacob with travel was weary one day, at night on a stone for a pillow he lay; he saw in a vision a ladder
so high, that its foot was on earth and its top in the sky. Alleluia to Jesus, who died on the tree and
hath laid up a ladder of mercy for me. This ladder is long, it is strong and well-made, has stood hundreds
of years and is not yet decayed; many millions have climbed it and reached Sion's hill, and thousands by
faith are climbing it still. Come, let us ascend! All may climb it who will, for the angels of Jacob are
guarding it still; and remember, each step that by faith we pass o'er, some prophet or martyr hath trod it
before. And when we arrive at the haven of rest, we shall hear the glad words: "Come up hither, ye blest.
Here are regions of light, here are mansions of bliss." O, who would not climb such a ladder as this?
THE SECOND LESSON Revelation 21:1-6a (page 244 in the pew Bible, NT)

I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say Tallis, arr. Oemler
Trio: Tracy Jordan, Christine Butz, Marie Oemler
I heard the voice of Jesus say, “Come unto me and rest; and in your weariness lay down your head
upon my breast.” I came to Jesus as I was, so weary, worn and sad. I found in him a resting place, and
he has made me glad. I heard the voice of Jesus say, “I am this dark world’s light. Look unto me; thy
morn shall rise, and all the day be bright.” I came to Jesus and I found in him my star, my sun; and in
that light of life I’ll walk, till all my days are done.
