surpassing greatness.

cymbals!

All: Praise the Lord! - Psalm 150
* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 414 As Those of Old Their Firstfruits Brought
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of love, you made us for love. You reached to us from across our sin to
make known to us the depth of your love for us. And yet, despite these profuse
declarations, we live as though you did not love us. We live as though we were
not created for love. We sin, and our hearts are not right within us. Forgive us,
we pray; turn our hearts and change us into the loving disciples you call us to be.
We pray this in the name of love incarnate, our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is,
seated at the right hand of God.
People: Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth,
for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Leader: When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in
glory. Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. - Colossians 3:1-4
* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 341)
This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long.

THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM
People: With joy and thanksgiving we welcome this child into Christ’s church.
We are the family of God for we are all one in Christ.
THE CHORAL RESPONSE Child of Blessing, Child of Promise Coates
THE FIRST LESSON Hebrews 9:24-28 (page 210 in the pew Bible, NT)
THE ANTHEM Hark, I Hear the Harps Eternal arr. Alice Parker
Hark, I hear the harps eternal ringing on the farther shore, as I near those swollen waters, with their
deep and solemn roar. Hallelujah, praise the Lamb! Glory to the great I Am! And my soul though
stained with sorrow, fading as the light of day, passes swiftly over those waters to the city far
away. Souls have crossed before me, saintly, to that land of perfect rest, and I hear them singing
faintly in the mansions of the blest.
THE SECOND LESSON Ruth 3:1-5; 4:13-17 (page 231 in the pew Bible, OT)
THE SERMON “Next of Kin” Baron Mullis
* THE HYMN (422) AND THE OFFERING OF PLEDGES
God, Whose Giving Knows No Ending
(You are invited to come forward and place your pledge cards on the communion table during the singing of the hymn.)
* THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus
Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the
Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he
descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into
heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he
shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy
catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection
of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy
will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive
us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.
Amen.
THE OFFERTORY In Every Age Janet Whitaker
Tami Giusto and Linda Rozakis, soloists
Long before the mountains came to be and the land and sea and stars of the night, through the endless
seasons of all time, you have always been, you will always be. In every age, O God, you have been our
refuge, you have been our hope. Teach us to make use of the time we have, to be patient even as we wait,
to embrace our every joy and pain. To sleep peacefully and to rise up strong.
* THE DOXOLOGY AND PRAYER OF DEDICATION (Hymn 592)
* THE HYMN 430 Come Sing, O Church, in Joy!
* THE CHARGE AND BENEDICTION
