Baptism of the Lord

9:45 a.m. Church School for all ages; New Member's Class
Adult Class - This Sunday, January 13, our class will be led by Drew Stockstill, and his topic will be The Gospel of Matthew. Everyone is invited to join Morningside's Adult Sunday School class in Room 201 as we work through Matthew's gospel.

Children: The Pre-K Class will hear the story Come to the Water and talk about Jesus' Baptism. Early Elementary Classes will read Mark 1:1-8 and learn how John prepared the people to meet Jesus, the Messiah. 4th and 5th graders will continue their study of Worship with a lesson on Baptism.

THEOLOGY ON TAP
The next meeting of the men of Morningside, Theology on Tap, will be tonight at 7 p.m. since the first Tuesday of the month was New Year's Day. Ken Sharpe (1700 Timberland Road, 30345) will be our host. RSVP to the church office office@morningsidepc.org.


COUPLES GROUP
Our Couples Group will meet at 7 p.m. this Friday, January 11 at the home of Ginny and Browning Fergus (990 Ralph McGill Blvd. NE 30306). All couples welcome. RSVP to kdbremer@bellsouth.net.

 

SUPPORT MEN AT JOURNEY SHELTER
This Sunday, January 13, MPC will provide dinner to the men staying at Journey. Sign up to provide a dish by contacting Rich Alexander rich.alexander@comcast.net. Needed: main dish; starch; veggie; salad; bread; dessert; and drinks. You can learn more about the good work being done at the Journey shelter by visiting www.journeyeee.org.

 

MEDITATION GROUP CONTINUES
Members and guests of Morningside Presbyterian have the opportunity to take up this valuable practice in a group setting that provides instruction, warm support, and benign discipline. We will continue this Sunday, January 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Welcome Center. Contact Ken Sharpe kensharpe@bellsouth.net with questions.

 

LGBT & FRIENDS
All are invited to join LGBT & Friends next Tuesday, January 15.  LGBT & Friends welcomes all who wish to grow and be energized through Christian fellowship and service. Joanna Adams will discuss: "Keeping Up With God:" My Journey as Parent and Pastor on Matters of Sexuality, Ordination, and Same Gender Marriage. The meeting will be at the home of John & Laura Fillyaw (280 Bruton Way, 30342) from 7 to 9 p.m. RSVP to Michael Siedschlag (michaelmspnyc@yahoo.com, 404.254.0706).

ONE GRAY HAIR LUNCHEON
One Gray Hair will meet next Wednesday, January 16 at 12 noon in Fellowship Hall. Daisy Ottmann will present the program, "Walking the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela." Please join us for this interesting and informative program.  RSVP to the Brownlees at rsbrownlee1046@att.net.

THIRD THURSDAY THEOLOGICAL THROWDOWN
Why a throwdown? Because it began with "th" of course! Starting on January 17, Baron will teach a lunchtime class on the third Thursdays of the month from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Feel free to bring a brown-bag lunch and spend some time thinking about what is important. Our first Theological Throwdown will be around John Dominic Crossan's provocative and controversial book, The Greatest Prayer: Rediscovering the Revolutionary Message of The LORD'S Prayer. Baron will take a chapter a month for discussion. All are welcome to come, but if you want to order a book (cost: $11.25) through the church, please contact Anna Best office@morningsidepc.org by January 7 to reserve a copy. Childcare by reservation.

VOLUNTEER ON MLK JR. WEEKEND
MPC will participate in assisting seniors with yard work, cleaning and small household repairs through Decatur's MLK Service Project on Saturday, January 19, 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m.  Contact shepherds Jack Klotz jacksklotz@gmail.com or Lloyd Prince lloydprince@comcast.net to volunteer or sign up on the bulletin board across from the church office.    

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
Plan to stay a few minutes after worship on Sunday, January 27, for a Congregational Meeting for the purposes of approving our church budget for 2013 and Baron's terms of call.  The 2012 Annual Report will also be available.
