CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
Plan to stay a few minutes after worship on Sunday, January 27, for a Congregational Meeting for the purposes of hearing our church budget for 2013 and approving Baron's terms of call. The 2012 Annual Report will also be available.
SAVE THE DATE!
Hold your calendars for the 2013 MPP FUN-Raiser to be held 7 p.m. on Saturday, February 9 at Le Maison Rouge (Paris on Ponce event room). The event promises to be a fun evening of celebrating our preschool and mingling with our extended MPP family. Much like years past, the centerpiece of our event is a Live and Silent Auction featuring donated items from neighborhood merchants, families, teachers and of course the art projects from each class! Contact Sarah Tomaka, mpp@morningsidepc.org, if you would like to purchase tickets.
YOGA
Pam Sharpe, veteran personal trainer and yoga teacher, invites you to join her yoga class on Tuesday mornings 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Classes began last Tuesday and will include yoga poses that will help students strengthen, lengthen and relax. Contact Pam for more information at 404.321.6630 or yogapam@bellsouth.net.
THIRD THURSDAY THEOLOGICAL THROWDOWN
Why a throwdown? Because it began with “th” of course! Starting this Thursday, January 17, Baron will teach a lunchtime class on the third Thursdays of the month from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Feel free to bring a brown-bag lunch and spend some time thinking about what is important. Our first Theological Throwdown will be around John Dominic Crossan’s provocative and controversial book, The Greatest Prayer: Rediscovering the Revolutionary Message of The LORD’S Prayer. Baron will take a chapter a month for discussion. All are welcome to come, but if you want to order a book through the church, contact Anna Best office @morningsidepc.org to reserve a copy or for a childcare reservation.
VOLUNTEER ON MLK JR. WEEKEND
MPC will participate in assisting seniors with yard work, cleaning and small household repairs through Decatur’s MLK Service Project next Saturday, January 19, 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Contact Jack Klotz jacksklotz@gmail.com or Lloyd Prince lloydprince@comcast.net to volunteer or sign up on the bulletin board across from church office.
DINNER AT CLIFTON SANCTUARY MINISTRIES
A new year brings new opportunities to help serve your community! MPC will serve dinner to the 30 men living at Clifton on Saturday, January 26, at 6 p.m. Please let Dave Johnston (dmjohnst @hotmail.com) know if you can help make needed dinner items (pork, green beans, rice, applesauce, & dessert). Items need to be dropped off at Clifton by 5:30 p.m. the day of, and dinner service by those interested in fellowship with the men is from 6 to 6:30 p.m. A sign up sheet is posted on the mission bulletin board.
SPRING MISSION TRIP
Go to http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/J9JN2LG to complete a brief survey designed to determine interest in, and preferences for, the New Orleans Spring 2013 Mission Trip. Please complete by tomorrow, January 14 so that we can make a final decision. We are considering a five-day trip (Wednesday-Sunday) at the end of February or beginning of March. The survey also addresses ways to participate even if you can’t go to New Orleans - such as donating airline points so those who can’t take as much time off work may fly in on Wednesday evening. Contact MPC Shepherd Roland Behm roland.behm@gmail.com with any questions.
CONGREGATIONAL LUNCH-FEBRUARY 3
Our congregational lunch menu will be: hearty chicken noodle, tomato basil and broccoli & cheese soups, roasted turkey and flank steak pinwheels, chicken salad sliders, green salad, French bread, and red velvet cake! Your RSVP is key to MPC being good stewards and ordering enough for our guests. Invite a friend and let the church office office@morningsidepc.org know by January 28!
A FEW HIGH CHAIRS NEEDED
We are thrilled to have so many little ones at congregational lunches and other events at MPC. Though we have a few high chairs, we would welcome the donation of just a few more. If your child has graduated from their high chair, please consider donating it to MPC for church functions. Contact Program Director Melinda Sandkam msandkam@morningsidepc.org.
OUR SYMPATHY TO:
