THE GATHERING
Leader: The Lord be with you. Drew Stockstill
People: And also with you.
THE PRELUDE Walter Huff, organist
* THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
People: Ascribe to the Lord the glory of his name; worship the Lord in holy
splendor.
Leader: The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord,
over mighty waters.
People: The voice of the Lord is powerful. The voice of the Lord is full of
majesty.
Leader: We have come to worship God who has created us. Amen. - Psalm 29:1-4
* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 478 Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Creator God, you stretched the heavens and filled the seas. You separated the
night from the day, and the dry land from the waters. And when you had created
every living thing, you made us. From the dust of the earth, you raised us up.
Created in your image, O God, we have striven for lesser things. We have allowed
ourselves to be defined by sin rather than glory. Forgive us, we pray. Teach us
once more to seek our true inheritance in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: It was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
People: I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful
are your works, O Lord.
Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - Psalm 139:13-14
* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 473)
For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child, friends on earth, and friends
above, for all gentle thoughts and mild, Lord of all to thee we raise this our hymn of
grateful praise.
* THE PEACE OF CHRIST
(Children ages 3-10 are invited to leave after the Baptism for special classes. Threes, fours & fives are in
Room 011; K-1st grade in Room 003; 2nd-3rd grade in Room 001; 4th-5th are in Room 005.)
THE CONCERNS OF THE CHURCH

THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM
People: With joy and thanksgiving we welcome this child into Christ’s
church. We are the family of God for we are all one in Christ.
THE CHORAL RESPONSE Alleluia, Alleluia! Give Thanks Fishel
THE FIRST LESSON Acts 8:14-17 (page 118 in the pew Bible, NT)
THE ANTHEM Shall We Gather at the River? arr. Carter
Kristin Vienneau, soloist
Shall we gather at the river where bright angel feet have trod; with its crystal tide forever flowing by
the throne of God? Yes, we’ll gather at the river, the beautiful river, gather with the saints at the river
that flows by the throne of God. Ere we reach the shining river, lay we every burden down; grace our
spirits will deliver and provide a robe and crown. Deep river, my home is over Jordan. Deep river, I want to
cross over into campground. Soon we’ll reach the shining river, soon our pilgrimage will cease; soon our
happy hearts will quiver with the melody of peace.
THE SECOND LESSON Isaiah 43:1-7 (page 631 in the pew Bible, OT)
THE SERMON “You are Mine” Baron Mullis
* THE HYMN 400 When We Are Living
* THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus
Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the
Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he
descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into
heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he
shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy
catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection
of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy
will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive
us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.
Amen.
THE OFFERTORY Variation on a Southern Hymn Tune Wood
* THE DOXOLOGY AND PRAYER OF DEDICATION (Hymn 592)
* THE HYMN 361 How Firm a Foundation (verses 1 through 5)
* THE CHARGE AND BENEDICTION
* THE CHORAL RESPONSE Foundation (excerpt) Beck
