WORSHIP FEBRUARY 3, 2013
4TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
THE GATHERING
Leader: The Lord be with you. Drew Stockstill
People: And also with you.
THE PRELUDE Walter Huff, organist
* THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness,
come into his presence with singing.
People: Know that the Lord is God. It is he that made us and we are his; we are
his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Leader: Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him,
bless his name.
People: For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his
faithfulness to all generations.
Leader: Let us worship God: Father, Son and Holy Ghost. - Psalm 100
* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 376 Love Divine, All Loves Excelling (verses 1, 2 and 4)
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of love, you created us to live lives marked by the love with which you
made us. But our sin has prevented us from being what you made us to be. We
have failed to live as messengers of a love so great that you became incarnate
that we might know who you are. In the failure of our imaginations, we have
not loved as you would have us love. So forgive us, we pray. Forgive us and recreate
us with your image fresh upon us. Use us to make your love known where
you would lead us to be through Christ our Lord we pray. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: Christ Jesus, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as
something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born
in human likeness.
People: And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became
obedient, to the point of death – even death on a cross.
Leader: Therefore God also highly exalted him, and gave him the name that is above
every name,
People: so that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bend, in heaven and on
earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus
Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. - Philippians 2:6-11
* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 579)
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.
* THE PEACE OF CHRIST

glory of your name:
Sanctus: Holy, holy, holy, Lord, God of power and might, (Hymn 581)
Heaven and earth are full of your glory; Hosanna in the highest. Blessed
is He who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
Leader: You are holy, O God of majesty…
Great is the mystery of faith.
People: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.

* THE CHORAL RESPONSE How Can I Keep from Singing? Lowry, arr. Ellingboe
What though the tempest 'round me roar, I hear the truth - it liveth. What though the darkness
'round me close, songs in the night it giveth. No storm can shake my inmost calm while to that rock
I'm clinging. Since love is lord of heaven and earth, how can I keep from singing?
