Morningside's trip to Scotland is set (August 3-12) and ready to go - and there's still plenty of time to sign up. Kaye Carmichael of Carmichael Travel will be here for an interest meeting following worship today in Room 201 at 12:15 p.m. If you want to learn more about this trip, this is your opportunity!

SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKE SUPPER AND PAJAMA PARTY

This Tuesday, February 12, 5:30-6:45 p.m. all are invited to celebrate Shrove Tuesday at our annual church and preschool Pancake Supper and Pajama Party in Fellowship Hall. Enjoy dinner for the family while The Magic Man delights us with his tricks and antics! Wear your PJs! Contact Jennifer James jennjames@comcast.net to RSVP and to volunteer.

ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICE

Lent begins at Morningside with our worship service and imposition of ashes next Wednesday, February 13 at 7 p.m. Childcare will be available in Room 105. Please join us.

LENTEN BANNERS

Beginning Ash Wednesday we will once again hang our beautiful Lenten banners in the sanctuary. A description of each banner follows:

Lenten Banner #1 entitled “Hand in Hand Amidst the Journey,” represents the beginning of Lent with the unsettled turmoil that we come with to the beginning of Lent. The issues of life, questions, cares and deep sighs of the soul, along with the story of Jesusʼ death stir us deeply. The maroons, golds, rusts and burgundy batik fabrics represent the thunderstorm of emotions that come with Lent.

Lenten Banner #2 entitled “Labor Along the Journey,” represents the last few weeks of Lent. The thunderstorm has subsided. We are coming to the end of Lent. Though many questions and concerns linger, the peace of Christ walks with us along the journey. The work or labor continues but the reassurance of the Holy Love of God through Jesus gives us comfort. The batik fabrics are shades of blue, gold and rusts represent the calming and comfort of God, as we come to the last few weeks of Lent.

LGBT & FRIENDS

LGBT & Friends welcome all who wish to grow and be energized through Christian fellowship and service, and they invite you to join them Tuesday, February 19 for their topic - Turning Points: Individual Stories of Sexual Orientation and Faith. The meeting will be at Peter & Carolyn Cobb's (1150 St. Charles Pl., 30306) from 7 to 9 p.m.  RSVP to Michael Siedschlag mwsiedschlag@gmail.com.

THREADS COLLECTION

Support our annual Threads collection of new pajamas, socks and underwear for children in need. Threads is devoted to clothing children (birth through 5th grade) with clean, durable clothing and footwear. Bring items to the Welcome Center baskets or to Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper.

3rd THURSDAY THEOLOGICAL THROWDOWN

On Thursday, February 21, Baron will teach a lunchtime class from 12 to 1 p.m. Feel free to bring a brown-bag lunch and spend some time thinking about what is important. Our Theological Throwdown will be around John Dominic Crossan’s provocative and controversial book, The Greatest Prayer: Rediscovering the Revolutionary Message of The LORD’S Prayer. Baron discusses a chapter a month. All are welcome. Contact Anna Best office@morningsidepc.org to reserve childcare.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Our annual Habitat for Humanity build with other area churches kicks off Saturday, February 23, and completes April 13 (with breaks for our adult mission trip and Easter).  We’ll also provide lunch March 16. Look for the signup sheets on the Habitat bulletin board or contact Lynsley Tyler lynsley @bellsouth.net for details and to let her know if you're interested in joining us either as a builder or as a lunch provider.

BART SMITH ORDINATION

Congratulations to Bart Smith, who will be ordained by the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta on February 24 at 4 p.m. in the afternoon. Bart’s ordination will take place in our sanctuary. Please mark your calendars to attend this very special service and to congratulate Bart on the official start of his ordained ministry!

YOGA AT MORNINGSIDE

The new session begins on February 26, and meets every Tuesday from 11 to 12:15 p.m. for six weeks (Feb. 26; March 5, 12, 19, 26; and April 2) in Room 201. Spring is a great time to enjoy the benefits of gentle yoga! Breathing, exercising, stretching, and relaxing are among the many benefits, and it’s fun! Wear comfy clothes, and bring a mat if you like. Props will be provided. To register or for more information, contact Pam Sharpe yogapam@bellsouth.net.

SOUPER BOWL OFFERING

Many thanks for everyone's support. MPC Youth are pleased to report that $438 was collected towards fighting hunger right here in Atlanta!

OUTREACH IN NEW ORLEANS

No, we are not going for Mardi Gras.  During the Lenten season, fourteen MPC members and friends will travel to New Orleans to continue work with RHINO (Rebuilding Hope in New Orleans) an outreach of St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian. This five day trip March 6-10 includes two days of driving. If you are unable to go on the trip, but would like to support mission at MPC, contact shepherd Roland Behm roland. behm@gmail.com to donate airline points that would enable a mission worker to miss one less day of work by flying in Wednesday evening.

REGISTRATION FOR MPP

Registration for Morningside Presbyterian Preschool is taking place now. Contact Preschool Director Sarah Tomaka mpp@morningsidepc.org for more information.

SUMMER DATES

Amazingly, summer camps begin their registrations as early as February! So do we. Vacation Bible School and Mission Camp registration forms are on our church website and the bulletin boards across from the nursery room 105. We hope that your children will join us June 17-21 (VBS) and July 22-26 (Mission Camp). (See registration form for information on a drama camp within VBS this year). Turn completed forms into the church office with your check made payable to MPC. Contact Program Director Melinda Sandkam msandkam@morningsidepc.org with questions including scholarship information.
