CALL TO CONFESSION Glenn Small
PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison)
Merciful God, whose ways are good and true, we confess that we have not lived as
you call us to live. We have shut our eyes to the evil the world allows. We have sealed
our ears from the cries of the suffering whose pain we abide. We have clung to the
hostility we harbor against one another, hardening our hearts to the power of grace.
Forgive us, Lord. Fill our hearts with your selfless love. Change our lives by your
matchless mercy. This we ask in Jesus’ name, in the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Our prayer continues with moments of silence for personal reflection.
ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

* PASSING OF THE PEACE

All: And also with you.

The life, death, resurrection, and promised coming of Jesus Christ has set the pattern
for the church’s mission. His human life involves the church in the common life of all people.
His service to people commits the church to work for every form of human well-being.
His suffering makes the church sensitive to all human suffering so that it sees the face of
Christ in the faces of persons in every kind of need. His crucifixion discloses to the
church God’s judgment on the inhumanity that marks human relations, and the awful consequences
of the church’s own complicity in injustice. In the power of the risen Christ
and the hope of his coming, the church sees the promise of God’s victory over all wrong.
The church follows this pattern in the form of its life and in the method of its action. So to
live and serve is to confess Christ as Lord. - From The Confession of 1967

* Sanctus Hymn 581
…Therefore we join our voices with all the faithful of every time and place, singing:
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
Heaven and earth are fully of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest!
Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest!
* Memorial Acclamation
…Great is the mystery of faith:
Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.
* The Lord’s Prayer
…And now with the confidence of the children of God, we pray as Christ taught us:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; Thy kingdom come: Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we
forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, For thine is
the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
