THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER

THE GATHERING Drew Stockstill
Leader: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE Walter Huff, organist

* THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Praise the Lord! O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast
love endures forever.
People: Who can utter the mighty doings of the Lord, or declare all his praise?
Leader: Happy are those who observe justice, who do righteousness at all times.
People: Let us worship God. - Psalm 106:1-3

* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 464 Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of the resurrection, we are an Easter people. We have been called out of
darkness into your marvelous light. In Jesus Christ, you sought and redeemed the
lost and the sinners. In Jesus Christ, you called us into a new way of being. While
we rejoice at the empty tomb of Easter, too soon our thoughts turn secular. Too
soon, the good news fades in our ears and we return to old ways and tired pat-
terns. Where you have called us into light, we dwell in the shadows, aware of the
light, but afraid to step fully into view. Forgive our sin, we pray, and lead us by
the hand, into your grace. Through Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)|

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: If anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see:
everything has become new.
People: All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has
given us the ministry of reconciliation.
Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - 2 Corinthians 5:17-1

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 473)
For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child, friends on earth, and friends

grateful praise.

Lamb of God, who takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. Give us peace.

during the later part of the Baroque era. This Agnus Dei is the last movement of his Easter Mass.)

THE GOSPEL LESSON John 21:9-19 (page 109 in the pew Bible, NT)

THE SERMONAnd What Then?” Baron Mullis

* THE HYMN 522 Lord, When I Came Into This Life

* THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus
Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Vir-
gin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he de-
scended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into
heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he
shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy
catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of
the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will
be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us
our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us
from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
THE OFFERTORY
