THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Gracious God, we know you love us. We know you came to save us from sin – from
suffocating self-interest and isolating barriers. We know that in Jesus Christ, we
know who you are and what you are like. We know all these things. We have
learned them from childhood or gathered them from friends. One way or the other,
we have come to know you. But it is so easy to slip back into old patterns and to live
as though we don’t know who you are and what you want for us. So forgive our sin,
we pray, and remind us once more of the great good news of your love. And reminding
us, send us once more to share the good news. We pray all these things
through Christ our Lord. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: God so loved the world that he sent his only son, so that whoever believes in him
may not perish but have eternal life.
People: Indeed, God sent the son not into the world that the world might
be condemned but so that the world through him might be saved.
Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. - John 3:16-17

THE ANTHEM We Shall Walk Through the Valley Spiritual, arr. Moore
We shall walk through the valley in peace, if Jesus himself shall be our leader. There will be no trials
there, if Jesus himself shall be our leader.

THE SECOND LESSON John 10:22-30 (page 98 in the pew Bible, NT)

THE SERMONTell Us Plainly” Baron Mullis

* THE HYMN 339 Be Thou My Vision

* THE AFFIRMATION OF FAITH from Brief Statement of Faith, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus proclaimed the reign of God:
preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and
deed and blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted,
eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the gospel.
Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified, suffering the
depths of human pain and giving his life for the sins of the world. God raised this Jesus
from the dead, vindicating his sinless life, breaking the power of sin and evil,
delivering us from death to life eternal.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will
be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us
our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us
from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
