* THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness,
come into his presence with singing.
People: Know that the Lord is God. It is he that made us and we are his; we
are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Leader: Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him,
bless his name.
People: For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his
faithfulness to all generations.
Leader: Let us worship God: Father, Son and Holy Ghost. - Psalm 100

* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 313 Come Down, O Love Divine

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Eternal God, though we are made in your image, we fail to live as you made us
to live. Where we have missed opportunities to serve, we need forgiveness.
Where we have been unkind, we need forgiveness. Where we have caused pain,
we need forgiveness. Where we harbor guilt and unease, we need forgiveness.
For what we know but cannot name, we need forgiveness. So remake us, we
pray. Call us and lead us where you would have us go. Through Jesus Christ our
Lord. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: By grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing: it is the
gift of God - not the result of works, so that no one might boast.
People: For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works,
which God prepared before hand to be our way of life.
Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. - Ephesians 2:8-10

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 126)

abroad a Savior’s love, and that shall kindle ours.

THE FIRST LESSON Genesis 11:1-9 (page 8 in the pew Bible, OT)

THE ANTHEM The Church Within Us Schneider, arr. Hustad
There’s a church within us, O Lord; not a building, but a soul; not a portion, but a whole;
there’s a church within us, O Lord. There’s potential within us, O Lord; something stirring within
us, O Lord; something longing to have birth, to be visible on earth. There’s a fire within us, O
Lord; a new life a-burning, O Lord; a fire for new life, combating present strife. There’s a church
within us, O Lord; there’s some building to be done, O Lord; not with steel, not with stone, but
with lives which are your own; it’s the church within us, O Lord.

THE SECOND LESSON
Acts 2:1-21 (page 111 in the pew Bible, NT)

THE SERMONWhat Is Church For?” Baron Mullis

* THE HYMN 441 I Love Thy Kingdom, Lord (verses 1 through 5)
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus
Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin
Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended
into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into
heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he
shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy
catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of
the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

* THE APOSTLES’ CREED

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will
be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us
our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us
from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
