* THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast;
I will sing and make melody.
People: Awake, my soul! Awake, O harp and lyre!
I will awake the dawn.
Leader: I will give thanks to you among the peoples,
and I will sing praises to you among the nations.
People: For your steadfast love is higher than the heavens,
and your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
Leader: Let us worship the Triune God! - Psalm 108

* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 481 Praise the Lord, God’s Glories Show

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Gracious God, give ear to our words. We are your gathered and humbled people,
the children of your promises, and the recipients of your grace – an inheritance
greater than we understand. In Jesus, you called us to leave the ways of the world,
follow him, and find new, abundant life in Christ. Yet, we have been found to be sinners.
We are often complicit in the world’s quest for more: more power, more
wealth, and more comfort. We trade the life you give us for cheap thrills and shortterm
fixes. We ignore and exclude our neighbors. But your ready forgiveness makes
us bold to confess our sins and trust in your undying grace. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: Through the law we died to the law, so that we might live to God. We have been
crucified with Christ; and it is no longer we who live, but it is Christ who lives in us.
People: The life we now live in the flesh we live by faith in the Son of God, who
loved us and gave himself for us.
Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel!
People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven!
-Galatians 2: 19-20

* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 280)

He will my shield and portion be as long as life endures.

THE CONCERNS OF THE CHURCH
(Visitors and members are invited to sign the blue friendship register pad and pass it down the pew.)

THE FIRST LESSON Galatians 2:15-21 (page 177 in the pew Bible, NT)

THE ANTHEM Christ Hath A Garden English folk song, arr. Near
Christ hath a garden walled around, a paradise of fruitful ground, chosen by love and fenced by grace
from out the world’s wide wilderness. Like trees of spice his servants stand, there planted by his
mighty hand; by Eden’s gracious streams, that flow to feed their beauty where they grow. Awake, O
wind of heaven, and bear their sweetest perfume through the air, stir up, O south, the boughs that
bloom, till the beloved Master come. That he may come, and linger yet among the trees that he hath
set; that he may evermore be seen to walk amid the springing green.

THE SECOND LESSON I Kings 21:1-21 (page 313 in the pew Bible, OT)

THE SERMONA Game of Gardens” Drew Stockstill

* THE HYMN 207 How Lovely, Lord

* THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus
Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the
Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he
descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into
heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he
shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy
catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection
of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will
be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us
our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us
from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

THE OFFERTORY Lamb of God Twila Paris, arr. Raney

* THE DOXOLOGY AND PRAYER OF DEDICATION (Hymn 592)

* THE HYMN 391 Take My Life, and Let It Be
(verses 1 through 5)

* THE CHARGE AND BENEDICTION

* THE CHORAL RESPONSE Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing Robinson, arr. Pfautsch
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love. Here’s my heart, Lord, take and seal it,
seal it for thy courts above. I am bound for the kingdom, will you go to glory with me? Hallelujah, praise
the Lord!
