THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Holy God, you are the same from age to age. In every age, your people have
sought to know you and to know your mind and your will for us. And in every
age, we have had times when what we have said and done reflected the way you
would have us live, and we have had times when what we have said and done
did not reflect the way you would have us live. Through it all, you are faithful
to us. And so we confess our failures knowing that we rest in your abiding
goodness, assured of your love for us all. Hear our prayers as we make them in
Jesus’ name and for his sake. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: This is the message that we heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is
light and in him is no darkness at all.
People: If we say that we have fellowship with him while we are walking in
darkness, we lie and do not do what is true. But if we walk in the
light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another
and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. - 1 John 1:5-7

* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 341)

THE ANTHEM On Jordan’s Stormy Banks I Stand Earlene Rentz
On Jordan’s stormy banks I stand, and cast a wishful eye to Canaan’s fair and happy land, where my
possessions lie. O’er all those wide extended plains shines one eternal day when love forevermore shall
reign, and turn the night to day. There David stands with harp in hand as master of the choir; ten thousand
times was David blessed, the music rang with power. No fear or sorrows or distress shall reach that
blissful shore; all sickness, suffering, pain, and death are felt and feared no more. I’m bound for the
promised land; oh, who will come and go with me? I’m bound for the promised land.

THE HOMILYPraise the Lord” Baron Mullis

THE HYMN SING
During worship today, we will join in a 15-20 minute hymn sing. We will sing selected verses from
hymns that you choose-either from the Presbyterian Hymnal or from the choices listed in the bulletin
insert. This process assures that our organist can have the music readily available and that the congregation
has access to the words. An index of titles can be found in the back of your pew hymnal. Have
your hymn number/title ready and raise your hand!

* THE HYMN 485 To God Be the Glory (verse 1)

* THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus
Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the
Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he
descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into
heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he
shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy
catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection
of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy
will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive
us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.
Amen.

THE OFFERTORY Now Thank We All Our God Russell Schulz-Widmar

* THE DOXOLOGY AND PRAYER OF DEDICATION (Hymn 592)

* THE HYMN 525 Here I Am, Lord (verses 1 and 3)

* THE CHARGE AND BENEDICTION

* THE CHORAL RESPONSE Over My Head Traditional, arr. Williams
Over my head, I hear music in the air. There must be a God somewhere. Over my head, I
hear singing in the air. There must be a God somewhere.
