MISSION CAMP
With the support of MANY volunteers, thirty children and youth here at MPC had a fantastic week at our 5th It's Not All About Me Mission Camp this past week.  They washed cars for donations to the Atlanta Humane Society.  They assembled non-perishable meals for the Brown Bag program of Cure Childhood Cancer and made sandwiches for the Smart Lunch, Smart Kid Program.  After assembling Welcome Home Baskets for the men at Clifton Sanctuary Ministries, the elementary age children delivered them, got a tour of the facility, assembled trail mix bags and decorated lunch bags.  The older crew of youth led activities at GateCity Daycare in southwest Atlanta and then went straight to Atlanta Community Food Bank for an afternoon of sorting donated food.  Both groups visited Intown Collaborative Ministries and Calvin Court Home for Seniors.  And, we all hiked 5 miles to the Len Foote Hike Inn for our annual overnight adventure, returning the next day.  Many thanks to everyone who supported Mission Camp.  Please join us for an ice cream social in Fellowship Hall following worship when the Mission Camp attendees will also share about their week.

COMING ATTRACTIONS!
Join us on Friday, August 2, at 7:30 p.m. for a free concert with our famed pianist/member Mac Frampton. Donations will be accepted for the MPC Music Library. Invite a neighbor or bring a friend. For more information visit www.macframpton.com.

OFF TO SCOTLAND
As 23 MPC members and friends travel to
Scotland on the church tour (August 3-12), please keep them in your prayers for safe travels. Twelve of the group will continue on to Iona - a worshiping community on an island in the Lower Hebrides on the far west of Scotland.

AUGUST ADULT EDUCATION
Join the Adult Sunday School class for a two- week series, August 4 and 11, led by Bill Smith and Anthony Owens as we explore Matthew 25 and 26. The class will begin at 9:45 a.m. in Room 201.

FAREWELL WALTER HUFF
MPC will honor our dear friend, Walter Huff,  with a reception after church on Sunday, August 18.  If you would like to contribute something to the Gala Occasion, please contact Susan Oder at susanoder@gmail.com or 404.308.6337.  We look forward to letting him know how much we appreciate his many years of love and service to us.

INTOWN COLLABORATIVE MINISTRIES
ICM provides a range of comprehensive services to our neighbors, including a food pantry (located at Druid Hills Methodist) which operates to provide the basic necessities of food to our homeless neighbors. ICM’s Pantry is supported by MPC and other congregations, individuals, businesses, and organizations in zip codes 30306/30307. From August 4-25, MPC will collect the following foods for the pantry: canned and boxed meals (stew, noodle bowls, chili, etc.); crackers; and sugar packets. Please bring your donated items to Welcome Center to help your neighbors in need.  Contact Nancy Collins ncollins0209 @gmail.com, 404.804.5191 with questions.

CHURCH OFFICE
MPC is looking for an office volunteer each Tuesday from 12 noon to 1 p.m. to work the desk. Duties include answering the phone, greeting the congregation/preschool community, receiving deliveries, and some light clerical work. Four volunteers could job-share and be responsible for one Tuesday a month.  If you would like to volunteer, please give Anna a call at 404.876.7396.

SUNDAY SCHOOL KICK OFF
The first week of August, many of the children at MPC start back to school!  Here at Morningside, we begin our Sunday school year the following Sunday, August 11 at 9:45 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. All are welcome to this hour of fun, with light breakfast items. Crafts, dress-up corner, and Jonah’s whale promise lots of fun. The kids will also participate in some outreach projects and hear details for children's choirs this year. Contact Jill Davis jdavis@tuxox.com, if you can help. Following the Kick off on August 11, we begin our school year classes that same day with kids "moving up" to their new grade during children's worship: three and four year olds in Room 011 with Kyra Hall; Kindergarten-1st graders in Room 003 with Debbi Loomis; 2nd-3rd graders in Room 001 with
Jessica Coons; 4th-5th graders in Room 005 with Sally Horne.

HANDBELL CHOIR
Our Handbell Choir will begin a new season on Thursday, September 5 with rehearsals each Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m., and you are invited to ring with the choir!  If you are interested or for more information contact Jeff Peters at 404.731.9291, jeffcpeters @gmail.com.

SAVE THE DATE!
It’s not too soon to mark off October 25-27 on your calendar and plan to get away to cool and lovely Montreat, NC, for our fifth annual all-church retreat featuring speaker Tom Long!  Each year, it’s been an event to remember for the whole family.  Watch for details in the next couple of months. Contact Mary Chapman with any questions chapman. maryv@gmail.com.

MPP
Morningside Presbyterian Preschool still has openings for toddlers and Pre-K students for this fall. Toddlers must be 15 months old by September 1 and Pre-K children must be 4. Contact Sarah Tomaka, Preschool Director, for more information: mpp @morningsidepc.org.
