THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give. - Sir Winston Churchill

SUNDAY SCHOOL KICK OFF
Many of MPC's children are back at school or will be soon! Here at Morningside, we begin our Sunday school year this Sunday, August 11 at 9:45 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. All are welcome to this hour of fun, with light breakfast items. Crafts, dress-up corner, and Jonah's whale promise lots of fun. The kids will also participate in some outreach projects and hear details for children's choirs this year. Contact Jill Davis jdavis@tuxox.com, if you can help.

THORNWELL OFFERING
During worship this Sunday, August 11, we will collect the annual offering for Thornwell Home for Children. This Presbyterian outreach in Clinton, South Carolina, serves at least 100 children each year - from toddlers to teens. Some stay for only a few months, others grow up at Thronwell. The envelopes in your worship bulletins were once again made by the Mission Camp attendees. Please join us in supporting the children at Thornwell.

WELCOME JESSICA COONS
Please welcome our newest staff member Jessica Coons. She is currently in her senior year as an English major at Emory. Jessica will be leading our 2nd-3rd graders on Sunday mornings beginning this Sunday, August 11.

FAREWELL WALTER HUFF
Walter's last Sunday at Morningside will be Sunday, August 18. During the 11 a.m. service, special organ and choral music by Bach, Paulus, Vaughan Williams and others will be presented. We will honor our dear friend, Walter Huff, with a reception following worship. If you would like to contribute something to the Gala Occasion, please contact Susan Oder at susanoder@gmail.com or 404.308.6337. We look forward to letting him know how much we appreciate his many years of love and service to us.

MPP
Morningside Presbyterian Preschool still has openings for toddlers and Pre-K students for this fall. Toddlers must be 15 months old by September 1 and Pre-K children must be 4. Contact Sarah Tomaka, Preschool Director, for more information: mpp@morningsidepc.org.

INTOWN COLLABORATIVE MINISTRIES
Through August 25 MPC will collect canned/boxed meals (stew, noodle bowls, chili, etc); crackers; and sugar packets for ICM's food pantry. They provide a range of comprehensive services to our neighbors in need in zip codes 30306/30307. Please bring your donated items to the Welcome Center baskets.

SAVE THE DATE!
It's not too soon to mark October 25-27 on your calendar and plan to get away to cool and lovely Montreat, NC, for our fifth annual all-church retreat featuring speaker Tom Long! Each year, it's been an event to remember for the whole family. Contact Mary Chapman with any questions chapman.maryv@gmail.com.

OUR SYMPATHY TO
Ann Bowers on the death of her mother Dorothy Bowers. A memorial service will be held this Saturday, August 10 at 3 p.m. at Fountain View Center (2631 N. Druid Hills Road, NE, Atlanta, 30329).
