THE PRELUDE
Air from Overture in D J.S. Bach Randy Romig, guest organist

* THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, forever; People: with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations. Leader: I declare that your steadfast love is established forever; People: your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens. Leader: Let us worship the Lord our God. - Psalm 89:1-2

* THE HYMN 473 For the Beauty of the Earth (verses 1 through 5)

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Merciful God, our sin is before us. Your way for us is clear: we are to love you with all our hearts, souls, minds and strength, and our neighbors as ourselves. Who among us may claim such love? In this calling, we have fallen short. We need reconciliation. And yet, we remember as well that our calling to live lives of humanity and kindness does not fail, and so we ask once more that you would strengthen us in discipleship, guide us, and give us the courage to live as you have called us. We ask this in the name of Jesus, and for his sake. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: Should we continue in sin in order that grace may abound? People: By no means! How can we who died to sin go on living in it? Leader: Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? People: Therefore we have been buried with him by baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. Leader: Believe the promise of the gospel: People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. - Romans 6:1-4

* THE APOSTLES’ CREED I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
