CHILDREN AND YOUTH CHOIRS
Regular practice for Children's Cherub Choir (K-3rd grade) begins Wednesday, September 11 from 6 to 6:30 p.m. The Youth Ensemble (4th graders and up) will begin a six-week segment on Wednesday, September 18, from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Contact Rebecca Shipley rebeccashipley@mindspring.com for more information about practice schedule (9/18 to 11/3), singing dates and to confirm participation in the Youth Ensemble.
JOURNEY
Please help us serve the Journey Shelter by picking a pan today located in the Narthex for food to serve next Sunday, September 8 at 7 p.m.  Next Sunday volunteers can either meet at Journey at 6:45 p.m. to help serve or leave filled pans in the church kitchen Sunday morning.  Please complete the sign up form on the bulletin board, so we know who is bringing food. Questions? Contact Tamara Nix at tamaranix@yahoo.com.
THINKING ABOUT JOINING MORNINGSIDE
Morningside will offer visitors the following opportunities to learn more about our church. Next Sunday, September 8, we will hold an Inquirers Class followed by a New Members Class on Sunday, September 15. Both will be held in the Session Room at 9:45 a.m. For more information or to register, please contact Baron Mullis 404.876.7396, ext. 11; baron.mullis@morningsidepc.org.
YOUTH GROUP
Morningside Youth's annual Youth and Parent Night Kick-Off event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. next Sunday, September 8 in Fellowship Hall. The evening will feature a parent/guardian meeting and games and activities for youth in 6th-12th grade. The meal will be catered, so RSVP to Chris Peters chrispeters@morningsidepc.org by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3.
KIDS PARTICIPATE IN WORSHIP
If your 3rd-5th grader would like to carry communion elements into worship this school year, let Melinda Sandkam know that you will be joining us for a brief training session in the sanctuary at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, September 8. This is a great way for older elementary children to connect with worship as leaders. Baron Mullis will talk to kids about the meaning of communion and worship leadership.
THEOLOGY ON TAP
After a summer break, Theology on Tap resumes Tuesday, September 10 at 7 p.m. Ken Sharpe will host (1700 Timberland Rd., 30345). Due to Labor Day we will meet on the second Tuesday. RSVP to the church office@morningsidepc.org.
YOGA
Gentle Yoga at Morningside begins at 11 a.m. Tuesday mornings on September 10 and will run for six weeks.  Suitable for almost everyone, props and mats are provided. All you need is comfy clothes, and the time and interest! Certified yoga teacher and personal trainer, Pam Sharpe loves her work and therefore classes are creative, fun, and accessible. Come and join us. For more information, contact Pam  404.217.5420, yogapam@bellsouth.net.

WELCOME TO MPP!
Morningside Presbyterian Preschool welcomes 96 students for the 2013-2014 school year. Our teachers are thrilled to start their new classes and to make new friends! We offer a special welcome to our 20 new families who are just starting out in our program. MPP has 9 preschool classes with ages ranging from 15 months to 5 years. Limited spots are available in the Toddler class and Pre-K class. Call Sarah Tomaka, Preschool Director, at 404.685.8758 or email mpp@morningsidepc.org for more information.
LGBT & FRIENDS
LGBT & Friends will kick-off its 2013-2014 season at the home of Jeff Peters and Michael Siedschlag (1812 Meadowdale Ave. NE) on Tuesday, September 17 at 7 p.m. This month's meeting will include discussion and preparation of Morningside's involvement in Atlanta's Pride events in October. RSVP to Michael Siedschlag mwsiedschlag@gmail.com.
MORNINGSIDE MINGLE
Resolve to Mingle in September! Please join fellow Morningside members and guests for an adults-only evening of socializing Sunday, September 22, 6 to 9 p.m. Our third Morningside Mingle will be hosted by Tara and Randy Parrish and Hillery and John McNeill, at the Parrish’s home (1206 Cumberland Rd. NE, 30306). Heavy hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be provided. RSVP to the church office @morningsidepc.org by Monday, Sept. 16.
KIDS NEED NEW ‘THREADS’ FOR BACK-TO-SCHOOL
You can help kids who haven’t the means to otherwise “buy” fall outfits by donating gently used school and casual clothes to our Threads closet, located in the elevator hallway next to Fellowship Hall. They’ll go to the shop managed by All Saints Episcopal where kids and their families get vouchers to select their own favorite styles and colors.
CHURCH RETREAT - OCTOBER 25-27
Rooms are filling up fast! If you plan to attend this year's retreat in North Carolina, the registration form and fee is due right away ($30 for individuals, $60 for couples, $75 for families of 3 or more)!  Forms are available in the Welcome Center and Narthex. The balance of fees will be due by September 22. Tom Long is this year’s featured speaker, and his topic is "Reading Other People's Mail: Fresh Insights from the Letters of the New Testament". Contact Mary Chapman with questions chapman.maryv@gmail.com.
ICM COLLECTS CLEANING SUPPLIES
Intown Collaborative Ministries supports many activities, including the Briarcliff Summit Food Co-op. The residents there—all low income, some formerly homeless—are moving into renovated apartments. We can help them keep things clean and nice by giving them cleaning supplies, items that they might not be able to purchase since they're stretching dollars to buy food. In September, MPC will try to give the residents 50 sets of cleaning supplies. Look for a poster with a list of the items they've requested.

Christian Education at Morningside
ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS—9:45 A.M. IN ROOM 201 LED BY DREW STOCKSTILL
Next Sunday, September 8 we will continue our series on "Reading the Bible for Understanding." Does the Bible seem too hard to understand? Do you feel like you're missing something about these ancient texts? Ever wonder how to talk about scripture in a world that seems to be so divided by "what the Bible says?” Everyone is invited to the adult Sunday school class to explore the different types of literature in the Bible and some tools for interpreting scripture. Bring your questions, bring your thoughts, bring your brain, and bring your heart. All are welcome!
CHILDREN’S CLASSES
Preschool children will engage in hands-on activities about color and light as follow-up for Blue and Green and Purple, Too!  The theme for Fall Elementary Classes is "Messengers for God". Today the K-1 and 2nd-3rd grades will respond to Paul's message in Romans: "nothing can separate us from God’s love". 4th and 5th grades will be in worship.

Keep in your prayers...

Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:6-7
