THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Generous God, the challenge you have laid before us is not greater than we are. You have given us the resources we need to be bountifully gracious. You have taught us what it is to love people as they are, to invite the unwelcome, to risk mingling with the unwashed masses. No, the challenge is not greater than we are. We cannot claim ignorance of your wishes nor can we claim a lack of resources. The fault lies in our willingness, O God. Forgive us, we pray, and work in our in- ward hearts and motives until that day when we come to find that we have learned how to live in your kingdom. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: God so loved the world that he sent his only son, so that whoever believes in him may not perish but have eternal life. People: Indeed, God sent the son not into the world that the world might be condemned but so that the world through him might be saved. Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel: People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. - John 3:16-17
