SANCTUARY FLOWERS
The flowers in the sanctuary are given to the glory of God by Dale and Barbara Ray in celebration of their 60th wedding anniversary September 19.
LAY READER
In keeping with the Presbyterian tenet of the priesthood of all believers, Morningside members participate regularly in worship leadership.  Today's lay reader is Doug Selph.
TODAY’S SERVICE MUSIC
All the organ music this morning is by Johann Sebastian Bach, 1685-1750. The prelude is one of his six Schübler Chorales, published in 1748. It is an actual transcription by Bach of a movement from one of his chorale cantatas. The prelude is in trio form with the melody in the pedals and is based on Hymn 482.
The offertory is a highly embellished chorale prelude based on Hymn 454. The postlude is from Orgelbüchlein, Little Organ Book, a collection of short chorale preludes based on the Christian Year, written in 1714-1716. In this prelude the melody is in the top voice with harmonic decoration in the lower three voices. All three pieces are examples of this great composer's religious convictions.

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS—9:45 A.M. IN ROOM 201
Next Sunday, September 29, we will start a 10-week class using the History Channel mini-series The Bible at 9:15 a.m. in Room 107.  We will watch one episode together and then at 10 a.m. we will have a guided discussion on the episode, what the Bible says, and what God might be saying to us today. This is a very approachable class and a great way to engage the Bible story anew or for the very first time. All are welcome.

The class in Room 201 will continue their series on Reading the Bible for Understanding at 9:45 a.m. where we learn new tools for reading and understanding Scripture. Everyone is invited to the adult Sunday school class. Bring your questions, bring your thoughts, bring your brain, and bring your heart. All are welcome!"
