THE GATHERING

THE PRELUDE

* THE CALL TO WORSHIP Leader: Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous. Praise befits the upright. People: Praise the Lord with the lyre. Make melody to him with the harp of ten strings. Leader: Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts. People: For the word of the Lord is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness. Leader: He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord. People: Let us worship God, who creates us, redeems us, and sustains us. Amen. - Psalm 33:1-5

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of love, we confess that we have not loved as we have been loved. We have allowed the world’s way of loving to shape our actions and our thoughts rather than your holy way of loving. We have loved selfishly, grasping; seeking for ourselves. You have loved selflessly, giving and living for others. You have shown us what is good. We have not met your expectations. So teach us again, we pray, how to be your people. Remind us of the ties of love that bind us to- gether so that we may be truly your followers. In the name of Jesus we pray, and for his sake. Amen
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: We do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, People: but we have one who in every respect has been tested as we are, yet without sin. Leader: Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Believe the promise of the Gospel: People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. - Hebrews 4:15-16

* THE APOSTLES’ CREED from A Declaration of Faith We acknowledge God is at work here and now when people show personal con- cern for each other and work to make helping agencies, including the church itself, more compassionate. We believe God sends us to risk our own peace and comfort in compassion for our neighbors. We are to give to them and receive from them accept- ing everyone we meet as a person; to be sensitive to those who suffer in body or mind; to help and accept help in ways that affirm dignity and responsibility.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and for- give us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
