Baron Mullis Preaching
"The Kingdon and the Chasm"
Texts: Psalm 146; Luke 16:19-31

TODAY’S SERVICE MUSIC
Felix Mendelssohn, 1809-1847, became famous as a pianist, organist, conductor and composer. He was especially popular in England, and was commissioned by the English publishing house, Coventry, to write three "Voluntaries." Unsure what a "Voluntary" was, Mendelssohn wrote the six Organ Sonatas. The prelude from Sonata V, begins with a freely composed chorale followed immediately by an Andante with a pizzacato pedal line. The offertory, the last movement of Sonata VI, bears a familiarity to the aria "O Rest in the Lord" from Mendelssohn's Elijah. The postlude from Sonata II is a march-like movement that Mendelssohn reworked from an earlier piece.
SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM
Madeleine Elise Harris, daughter of Shannon and Lisa Harris, will receive the sacrament of baptism this morning.
A FULL HOUSE FOR THE RETREAT
We have a record number of members attending the retreat this year: 41 adults and nine children.  If you would like to claim one of the two rooms still available, fill out a registration form and get a check to the office as soon as possible, before the Lodge rents the rooms we have not filled. Registration forms are still in the Welcome Center. Featured speaker Tom Long will present a series of three sessions entitled Reading Others People's Mail: Fresh Insights form the Letters of the New Testament.

Christian Education at Morningside
Next Sunday, October 6 we continue a 10-week class using the History Channel mini-series The Bible at 9:15 a.m. in Room 107. We watch one episode together and then at 10 a.m. we have a guided discussion on the episode, what the Bible says, and what God might be saying to us today. This is a very approachable class and a great way to engage the Bible story anew or for the very first time. All are welcome.

The class in Room 201 will continue their series on Reading the Bible for Understanding at 9:45 a.m. where we learn new tools for reading and understanding Scripture. Everyone is invited to the adult Sunday school class. Bring your questions, bring your thoughts, bring your brain, and bring your heart. All are welcome!
CHILDREN’S CLASSES
The Preschool class will wonder about God's promise to Abraham as they hear Count the Stars! K-1, 2nd-3rd, and 4th-5th grade classes will hear Paul's message that Christians are citizens of the household of God.
