THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION Holy God, we are your people. Yet we do not always live as though this were true. You love us beyond our imagination and we are grateful, but not grateful enough to risk meeting your expectations. Where you would have us act, we have waited. Where you would have us show kindness, we have allowed barri- ers of our own making to rise between ourselves and those you would have us serve. Remind us of our own baptism as we celebrate the sacrament this day. Remind us of your eternally springing love that we cannot escape. We pray all these things the name of Jesus. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: We know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus, and will bring us with you into his presence. People: Yes, everything is for your sake, so that grace, as it extends to more and more people, may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God. Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel: People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. - 2 Corinthians 4:14-15

* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 473) For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child, friends on earth, and friends above, for all gentle thoughts and mild, Lord of all to thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise.

* THE HYMN 339 Be Thou My Vision

* THE APOSTLES’ CREED I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Vir- gin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he de- scended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen
