Baron Mullis Preaching, "Where Are the Others?"

Text:  Psalm 111 and Luke 17:11-19

SANCTUARY FLOWERS
The flowers today are given to the Glory of God and in honor of Mary Ann Woolley Cadiente and Lily Brooks Woolley whose birthdays are October 14 and in memory of Dan Woolley who died October 14, 2007.
TODAY’S SERVICE MUSIC
The organ music today is by American composers. Charles Callahan, b.1951, is one of America's leading organist-composers. He has composed over 300 works for organ, piano, chorus, solo voice, chamber ensemble and orchestra. His "Aria" is a lovely melody, showing off the colors of the organ. Alice Jordan, 1916-2011, was best known for over 250 published choral and organ works. She lived most of her life in Des Moines, Iowa. "Jubilate” is based on the hymntune, "Madrid,” with the text, "Come, Christians, Join to Sing."
RHO READERS BOOK SALE
The RHO Readers will wrap up their book sale during fellowship this afternoon.  The books, donated by the group and MPC members, are priced to sell, and all proceeds will go to charity. Be sure to stop by and see them following worship!
MPC YOUTH IN OCTOBER
This evening, we meet at our regular youth group time 5-7 p.m. to use creativity to think about different images of God.  Next weekend, we will serve as volunteers at Jungle Jam on Saturday, October 19 instead of our Sunday evening gathering.  The last weekend in October, we will have our annual lock-in from 6 p.m. on Friday, October 25 through 8 a.m. Saturday, October 26.  After pizza, a corn maze, bonfire, hayride and all-night movies and games, we will not meet on Sunday evening. RSVP to Chris Peters for each of these activities.
LGBT & FRIENDS
LGBT & Friends welcomes Kimberly Knight to facilitate its October 15 program “Sharing Christianity with the Gay Community.” Kimberly has a robust blog following and leads social media for ministry workshops across the U.S. The meeting, including dinner, will be in Fellowship Hall from 7 to 9 p.m.  All are welcome.  RSVP to lgbtandfriends@morningsidepc.org.
3rd THURSDAY THEOLOGICAL THROWDOWN
We continue our study of the Lord's Prayer with the words, "Lead Us Not Into Temptation", this Thursday, October 17 at noon.  Bring a lunch if you wish, and let's think about what those words mean.

LYDIA CIRCLE
The next meeting of the Lydia Circle will be this Thursday, October 17 at 7 p.m.  Rachel Spears will be our host (1728 North Pelham Rd., 404.870. 9929). RSVP to Lele Ruby leleruby@bellsouth.net.
CONGREGATIONAL MEETING—OCTOBER 20
A congregational meeting will be held next Sunday, October 20, immediately following worship for the election of a slate of Elders; a slate of Deacons; and the congregational representatives for the 2014 Officer Nominating Committee. Child care will continue.

2014 INTERNATIONAL MISSION TRIP
The Mission Team is working to plan a 2014 international mission trip and needs your input. This link (http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/QSV89LB) is a brief survey designed to determine interest in, and preferences for, a 2014 trip. Please complete survey by this Tuesday, October 15.
JUNGLE JAM
MPC will be a “zoo” this Saturday, October 19, as the annual Jungle Jam all-family event takes over our grounds from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. with rides, games, and food. Jungle Jam is Morningside Presbyterian Preschool’s fall fundraiser to which neighbors, friends, church families and preschool families are all invited to join the fun and get acquainted. Volunteer shifts are available to set up, clean up or be part of the fun for first or second shift during the event. To take part, contact Mary Hardy Holaway maryhardyh@gmail.com.
FOOD TRUCKS TO RETURN
Once again, all are welcome from 5 to 8 p.m. for Food Trucks here in the MPC parking lot. Spread the word for Thursday, October 24.  Bring a lawn chair or picnic blanket and enjoy an easy dinner.
ALL SAINTS’ OBSERVANCE
All Saints' Day is a day of observance in the liturgical calendar of the church in which we celebrate the lives of those whose race is run, who have kept the faith, and whose witness lives on among us in the communion of the saints.  In our communion liturgy, those who passed from this life this year will be remembered with thanksgiving to God for their lives and witnesses.  If there are friends or family who died in the last year whose names you would like remembered in this prayer on All Saints' Day, please contact the church office.
SUPPORT OUTREACH EVENTS
There are two October opportunities to learn more about outreaches that MPC partners with while enjoying a meal. The Clifton Sanctuary Ministries annual graduation dinner is this evening at North Avenue Presbyterian Church. Contact David Johnston dmjohnst@gmail.com today to join the MPC table. On Wednesday, October 23, the Interfaith Children's Movement welcomes supporters to its annual breakfast at 7:30 a.m. at The Temple. This year's guest speaker is Joanna Adams. Contact the church office to join the table.
OUR HOUSE
We are collecting mittens, gloves, hats, scarves, jackets, sweaters and Halloween costumes for children (infant-5 years) who attend the Our House preschool for kids facing homelessness.  Please bring your new/gently-used donations to the Preschool or Welcome Center by October 25.  For more information, please see the Preschool bulletin board or contact Shepherd Becky Schreiber becky.schreiber@gmail.com.
MPP DINE OUT
The first dine-out of the school year will be on Tuesday, October 29 from 5 to 10 p.m. at El Taco (1186 N. Highland 404.873.4656).  Reservations for any size group are encouraged and please be sure to mention MPP so that 20 percent of the proceeds will go to our preschool community.
SIGN UP TO BE IN PAGEANT
The sign up form to participate in the Christmas Pageant is available on our website and at church. Be sure to fill it out and return to church by November 3. See the form for details regarding ages and practices. Sewing volunteers are needed for some repairs and a few new costumes.

Christian Education at Morningside
Next Sunday, October 20 we continue a 10-week class using the History Channel mini-series The Bible at 9:15 a.m. in Room 107. We watch one episode together and then at 10 a.m. we have a guided discussion on the episode, what the Bible says, and what God might be saying to us today. This is a very approachable class and a great way to engage the Bible story anew or for the very first time. All are welcome.

Next Sunday at 9:45 a.m., the class in Room 201 will examine a few of the books left out of the Bible. Everyone is invited to the adult Sunday school class. Bring your questions, bring your thoughts, bring your brain, and bring your heart. All are welcome!

CHILDREN’S CLASSES
Today, the Preschool class will learn how his father's gift of a beautiful coat creates trouble for Joseph in Two Coats for Joseph. Through Elijah all elementary classes will learn that God speaks even in complete silence.
