THE PRELUDE Aria Charles Callahan Sarah Martin, organist

* THE CALL TO WORSHIP Leader: May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face to shine upon us. People: That your way may be known upon the earth, your saving power among the nations. Leader: Let the peoples praise you, O God, let all the peoples praise you. People: Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you judge the peoples with equity and guide the nations upon the earth. Leader: Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you. People: The earth has yielded its increase; God, our God, has blessed us. May God continue to bless us; let all the ends of the earth revere him! Leader: Let us worship God, our creator, redeemer and sustainer, Amen. - Psalm 67

* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 483 Sing Praise to God, Who Reigns Above

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION Eternal God, with our trust in you, we need fear nothing. Yet we live timidly rather than boldly. As your called people, we should be a light to the world. But we choose instead to live unto ourselves. As the recipients of great good news, we should be exuberant in our sharing. But sometimes our gratitude is too quiet. Sometimes we settle for a response that doesn’t show how we have been changed. We have sinned and we need your forgiveness. Cast out our complacency and replace it with enthusiasm, O God. Call us, empower us, use us, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON Leader: God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners, Christ died for us. People: For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his son, much more surely, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life. Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel: People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - Romans 5:8, 10

* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 466) My gracious Master and my God, assist me to proclaim, to spread through all the earth abroad the honors of Thy name.

* THE AFFIRMATION OF FAITH from The Confession of 1967, inclusive language text The church responds to the message of reconciliation in praise and prayer. In that response it commits itself afresh to its mission, experiences a deepening of faith and obedience, and bears open testimony to the gospel. Adoration of God is acknowledg- ment of the Creator by the creation. Confession of sin is admission of every person’s guilt before God and of their need for God’s forgiveness. Thanksgiving is rejoicing in God’s goodness to all people and in giving for the needs of others.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
