Baron Mullis preaching, "When It's All Over but the Limping"

Texts: 2 Timothy 3:14-4:5; Genesis 32:22-31

TODAY’S SERVICE MUSIC
The anthem and the organ music today are from the late Italian Baroque period and the early 18th century. Pitoni, 1657-1743, from the age of five was connected with various churches in Rome. He became one of Rome’s leading musicians, as organist, composer and maestro di cappella. The organ music is from the 18th century and was “discovered” in the early 1970s in the Cathedral Library of Pistoia, a town in Tuscany close to Florence. Opera has been Italy’s most important art form, and one can see its influence on this secular sounding organ music, written to be played only in churches.
CONGREGATIONAL MEETING TODAY
A congregational meeting will be today immediately following worship for the election of a slate of Elders; a slate of Deacons; and the congregational representatives for the 2014 Officer Nominating Committee. Child care will continue.
SUPPORT OUTREACH EVENTS
This Wednesday, October 23, the Interfaith Children's Movement welcomes supporters to its annual breakfast at 7:30 a.m. at The Temple. This year's guest speaker is Joanna Adams. We have a few spaces still available, and we would love for you to join us. Contact the church office.
FOOD TRUCKS RETURN
Once again, all are welcome from 5 to 8 p.m. for Food Trucks here in the MPC parking lot. Spread the word for this Thursday, October 24.  Bring a lawn chair or picnic blanket and enjoy an easy dinner.
MPC YOUTH LOCK-IN
We will have our annual lock-in from 6 p.m. this Friday, October 25 through 8 a.m. Saturday, October 26.  After pizza, a corn maze, bonfire, hayride and all-night movies and games, we will not meet the following Sunday evening. RSVP to Chris Peters to attend.
WOMEN’S ROUNDTABLE
Women's Roundtable will meet next Monday, October 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Lynn Young (277 The Prado NE, 30309). We will eat, drink, visit, catch up, and get organized for the year. Drew Stockstill will be our guest and will facilitate our discussion. Please bring your thoughts, ideas and enthusiasm!  RSVP to Sarah Brownlee rsbrownlee1046@att.net, or 404.876.3572.
MPP DINE OUT
The first dine-out of the school year will be on Tuesday, October 29 from 5 to 10 p.m. at El Taco (1186 N. Highland, 404.873.4656).  Reservations for any size group are encouraged and please be sure to mention MPP so that 20 percent of the proceeds will go to our preschool community.
ALL SAINTS’ OBSERVANCE-NOVEMBER 3
All Saints' Day is a day of observance in the liturgical calendar of the church in which we celebrate the lives of those whose race is run, who have kept the faith, and whose witness lives on among us in the communion of the saints.  In our communion liturgy, those who passed from this life this year will be remembered with thanksgiving to God for their lives and witnesses.  If there are friends or family who died in the last year whose names you would like remembered in this prayer on All Saints' Day, contact the church office.
OUR HOUSE
This Friday, October 25, we conclude our collection of  mittens, gloves, hats, scarves, jackets, sweaters and Halloween costumes for children (infant-5 years) who attend the Our House preschool for kids facing homelessness. Please bring your new/gently-used donations to the Preschool or Welcome Center.
YOGA
A new class of gentle Yoga at Morningside begins at 11 a.m. Tuesday morning, October 29 and will run through December 3 with a Christmas luncheon on December 10. Suitable for almost everyone, props and mats are provided. All you need is comfy clothes, and the time and interest! Certified yoga teacher, personal trainer and MPC member, Pam Sharpe loves her work and classes are creative, fun, and accessible. Come and join us. For more information, contact Pam at 404.217.5420, yogapam @bellsouth.net.
DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME
Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, November 3. We "fall back" and gain an extra hour of sleep. Be sure to set your clocks back one hour before going to bed Saturday, November 2.
PAGEANT SIGNUPS
The sign-up form to participate in the Christmas Pageant is available on our website and at the church. Be sure to fill it out and return to church by November 3. See the form for details regarding ages and practices. Sewing volunteers are needed for repairs and a few new costumes.
NEW ADULT EDUCATION CLASS
Advent is the season in which our faith bids us to turn from the frantic three-month-march toward Christmas, and instead, wind our way up a hillside near Bethlehem to spend a few unhurried weeks among shepherds and sheep listening for an angel’s greeting. But before we begin this humble season, we are invited to engage in the advent of Advent with a  four-week study of the Gospel of James. This Gospel provides a fascinating glimpse into the lives of Mary and Joseph and prompts an excavation through the layers of fact, fable and faith. Join us on the four Sundays of November, at 9:45 a.m. in Room 201, for the class taught by Rev. Dana Hughes, a professional Interim Pastor, former Moderator of the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta, wife and mother.
THINKING ABOUT JOINING MORNINGSIDE
Morningside will offer visitors the following opportunities to learn more about our church. On Sunday, November 10, we will hold an Inquirers Class followed by a New Members Class on Sunday, November 17. Both will be held in the Session Room at 9:45 a.m. For more information or to register, contact Baron Mullis 404.876.7396, ext. 11; baron.mullis@morningsidepc.org.

Christian Education at Morningside
Next Sunday, October 27 we will take a small break.  Regular classes resume Sunday, November 3.
CHILDREN’S CLASSES
This Sunday, the three and four year-old children will read Plenty to Eat and discover how a famine reunites Joseph with his family. Elementary classes will meet Amos, God's messenger, who called people to live out God's justice - not just talk about it.

Keep in your prayers...

Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:6-7
