THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Gracious God, we know academically that Christ is Lord of all creation, present at the start, sustaining in the Holy Spirit all that have breath. We know this, yet there are times when we struggle, when the life of faith feels more like a wrestling match. We forget that it means that Christ is Lord, not cancer cells; Christ is Lord, not racism. Christ is Lord not economic forces; Christ is Lord, not war and death. We know all these things, yet even knowing, we are scared that, one day, it will not be so. Forgive our failure to trust in you and help us to turn from fear to trust. We ask in the name of Christ, who is Lord of all. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: I appeal to you, therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. People: Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God – what is good and acceptable and perfect. Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel: People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - Romans: 12:1-2

* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 417) Laud and honor to the Father, laud and honor to the Son, laud and honor to the Spirit, ever three and ever one; One in might and one in glory while unending ages run.

* THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Vir- gin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he de- scended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and for- give us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
