WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY
Welcome to worship at Morningside Presbyterian Church. Please complete the information in the Friendship Pad at the end of the pews and pass the pads down and back again during the Concerns portion of worship. Worship notebooks and books for children are located in the library. Nursery for infants is in Room 105; toddlers 18 months through 2 years are in Room 012. Children ages 3- 10 are invited to leave after the Passing of the Peace for special classes: Threes & fours-Room 011; K-1st grade - Room 003; 2nd-3rd grade - Room 001; 4th-5th grade - are in Room 005.

TODAY’S SERVICE MUSIC
In a nod to Reformation Sunday, much of the music this morning comes from the Lutheran tradition. The music and the text of "A Mighty Fortress" were written by Martin Luther and published in 1531. Buxtehude (1637-1707) was organist at the St. Mary's Church in Lübeck, Germany for 40 years. His setting of the chorale is very embel- lished, with the melody hardly recognizable. In Bach's (1685-1750) setting of the chorale, how- ever, the melody for the most part is easy to fol- low. The offertory chorale, "Erbarm dich mich," is a unique setting by Bach with string-like repeated progressions and the melody in long notes in the soprano. The anthem is by Heinrich Schütz, one of the early Lutheran church's most renowned com- posers, who blended a German sensibility with in- vogue Italian Baroque idioms. Perhaps the most "Lutheran" moment in the piece is the rapid repeti- tion of "alle" - emphasizing that redemption through Christ is for all people. The choral re- sponse is a setting of the final verse of Martin Lu- ther's poetic versification of the Lord's Prayer.

LAY LITURGIST
In keeping with the Presbyterian tenet of the priest- hood of all believers, Morningside members par- ticipate regularly in worship leadership.  Today's youth liturgist is Lucy Grant and lay reader is Miranda Brownlee.

ALL SAINTS’ OBSERVANCE NOVEMBER 3
All Saints' Day is a day of observance in the li- turgical calendar of the church in which we celebrate the lives of those whose race is run, who have kept the faith, and whose witness lives on among us in the communion of the saints. In our communion liturgy, those who passed from this life this year will be remem- bered with thanksgiving to God for their lives and witnesses. If there are friends or family who died in the last year whose names you would like remembered in this prayer on All Saints' Day, contact the church office.

Morningside will offer visitors the following opportunities to learn more about our church. "THE BIBLE" SUNDAY SCHOOL
If you are interested in learning more about the story of Jesus in the Bible, join our class, Sunday at 9:15 a.m. in Room 107 as we make our way into the New Testament using the History Channel mini-series "The Bible." This class has been a great success and we'd love for you to be part of the next five weeks. Breakfast and coffee are provided.

Christian Education at Morningside
Next Sunday, November 3 we will begin a new class taught by Rev. Dana Hughes, a profes- sional Interim Pastor, former Moderator of the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta, wife and mother. We will focus on Advent, a season in which our faith bids us to turn from the frantic three-month- march toward Christmas, and instead, wind our way up a hillside near Bethlehem to spend a few unhurried weeks among shepherds and sheep listening for an angel’s greeting. But before we begin this humble season, we are invited to engage in the advent of Advent with a four-week study of the Gospel of James. This Gospel provides a fascinating glimpse into the lives of Mary and Joseph and prompts an excavation through the layers of fact, fable and faith. Join us on the four Sundays of No- vember, at 9:45 a.m. in Room 201.

CHILDREN’S CLASSES
This Sunday, The Pre-K class will hear about the wonderful way God kept Baby Moses safe as they listen to Safe in a Basket. K-1, 2nd-3rd and 4th-5th grade classes discover God's messenger Mi- cah's three rules for Godly Living.
