THE GATHERING

* THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: I will bless the Lord at all times; the Lord’s praise shall continually be in my mouth.
People: My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad.
Leader: O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt God’s name together.
People: I sought the Lord, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.

THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Merciful God, we enter the sanctuary to worship and to sing your praises. Yet in reality, we often exalt ourselves. We compare our acts with our perceptions of others. We contrast our giving with assumptions about our neighbors. Lord, we seek to live each day as a response of gratitude to your grace. Yet in reality, we exalt powers of politics and privilege. We damage creation and degrade our neighbors. God, forgive us of our self-exalting and self-centered ways of living. Guide us toward faith and humility that rests in the promise of your grace. Di- rect us toward actions that exalt your name. In the name of Jesus, Lord hear our prayer. Amen.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: From now on, therefore, we regard no one from a human point of view; even though we once knew Christ from a human point of view, we know him no longer in that way.
People: So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - 2 Corinthians 5: 16-17
* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 260) That word above all earthly powers, no thanks to them, abideth; the Spirit and the gifts are ours through Him who with us sideth; let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also; the body they may kill, God’s truth abideth still, His kingdom is forever.
* THE PEACE OF CHRIST (Children ages 3-10 are invited to leave after the Peace of Christ for special classes. Threes & fours are in Room 011; K-1st grade in Room 003; 2nd & 3rd grade are in Room 00l; 4th-5th grade are in Room 005.)

I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and for- give us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
