* THE CALL TO WORSHIP Leader: Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness. Come into his presence with singing. People: Know that the Lord is God. It is he that made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Leader: Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, bless his name. People: For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations. Leader: Let us worship God, our creator, redeemer and sustainer. Amen. - Psalm 100

* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 414 As Those of Old Their Firstfruits Brought

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Eternal God, we know that everything we have and are is a gift from you, a blessing from your own hand. Even the labor of our hands is a gift from you. We know that. Many labor harder for fewer rewards. And yet, we forget sometimes the call to give thanks without ceasing. We see what we are missing rather than what we have. We forget your benefits. Forgive us, we pray, when we fail to re- member your graciousness. And forgiving us, turn our hearts in gratitude to re- call from whom all our blessings flow. It is in the name of Jesus, and for his sake that we pray. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: Put away from you all bitterness and wrath and anger and wrangling and slander, together with all malice, and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another as God in Christ has forgiven you. People: Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children, and live in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel: People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Amen. - Ephesians 4:31-5:2

THE ANTHEM In Every Age Janet Whitaker Tami Giusto, soloist Long before the mountains came to be and the land and sea and stars of the night, through the endless seasons of all time, you have always been, you will always be. In every age, O God, you have been our refuge, you have been our hope. Teach us to make use of the time we have, to be patient even as we wait, to embrace our every joy and pain. To sleep peacefully and to rise up strong.

THE SECOND LESSON Luke 20:16-38 (page 79 in the pew Bible, NT)

* THE APOSTLES’ CREED I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
